Please tell me about the engine head cover of Gen1.

Heine_Co I was a very lucky guy who spent 23 of my 31 years at Chrysler/FCA working on the progression of Team Viper through SRT. Mostly engine design for Gen1-3 & Gen5 of Viper then internals of the Hellcat & Demon engines; with a short stint as SQ manager at the Conner Viper vehicle & engine...

Please tell me about the engine head cover of Gen1.

redtanrt10 is correct. A few more details: The original Gen1 Viper intake manifolds manifolds had 4 stripes on each side. They were sand cast aluminum plenums with shaped aluminum oval tubes in between, all salt-bath braised from a company in Ohio named Winters (they also did the blocks and...

Viper oil change video (Gen 2)

nmp1: You mention upgrading to a Mobil1 oil filter. We used Mobil1 oil filters as original equipment on the Viper engines until Gen4/5 when switched to WIX filters.

Viper oil change video (Gen 2)

Well done video nmp1. A couple of comments: * Good idea to jack up the rear of the car -- 1/2 quart of dirty oil is good to catch. * Next time you change oil here's a tip: after loosening the filter with your strap wrench, but before spinning it off, grab a 1-gallon ziplock bag from the kitchen...

    iPhone Hook-up in a Gen2?

This question has probably been asked -- and answered before, but it's been a LONG time since I've been on (I know, shame on me). How can I hook my iPhone into the radio system of my '97 GTS? Any known kits or adapters or workarounds? THANKS!

Anyone know where I can find a GTSR block?

By the FIA rules and regulations the blocks (and heads) had to be PRODUCTION castings. The only difference in the original GTSR blocks were beefier main caps. But, if you look hard you'll see production part numbers on blocks & heads. The GTSR heads had some trick CNC machining work done, but...

    Carbon Fiber Console

Hiss, That looks GREAT!!! But, the center stack now makes the I/P look plain, so NOW you have to have the three-pod made in CF, too! (Easy for me to say since it isn't MY money!) :D

    Viper Plant Goes Into OT

OK, I figured out where I went wrong. This IS the first time that the "Chrysler LLC Conner plant" has worked OT. All the rest were either Chrysler or DamnearChrysler's Conner plant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Viper Plant Goes Into OT

Curious quote: "From today's Automotive News: "For the first time, Chrysler LLC's Conner Avenue (Detroit) plant will work overtime. In the past, the plant would increase the line speed for the Dodge Vipers built there instead of scheduling overtime"." Then what were all of those TEN-HOUR...

    Is the 2008 Viper a GEN 3/3.5/4

I vote for Gen 3.141592. . . That way you can have you Pi and eat it, too! Or is that cake . . .? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

'08 Color -- I may change my order

I also believe the restriction for blue w/white stripes is only for GTS blue Coupes, not the lighter blue. But, as always I could be wrong (and frequently am!)!! :rolaugh:

    Highway Robbery!

Damn! And I thought the $247 I am paying in Michigan for my '97 GTS was kinda steep. I'll quit whining now (at least about this!). ;)

    Viper color poll

I KNOW it's not on the upcoming color pallete, but does anyone think a Viper convertible in BRG (British racing green) with a tan (NOT cognac!) top and interior would look good? No stripes required. :2tu:

    Wipers? Vipers don't need Wipers!

Rain? The SRT guys had SNOW TIRES :omg: on the car last winter trying to get all of the calibration work done for the 2008MY car to keep you guys happy! Now THAT's dedication!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) And from what I heard they handled OK!

IS this TOO AGRESSIVE looking for a VIPER?

Now you need an equally agressive CF decklid with a bit more duckbill/spoiler on it. Then it will look more balanced IMHO. :2tu: It can NEVER look too agressive for a Viper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    What Were They Thinking???

Ya know, you guys continue to amaze me!!! If somebody does something THAT THEY LIKE then so be it! Be glad for him (or her)!!!!!!!!!!!! DARE TO BE DIFFERENT!!!!!!!!! I applaud the owner for doing what he/she wanted :2tu: :2tu: :2tu:

    REALLY Early Snakeskin Green Viper?

I found this link while looking for something else -- but Viper-related sites ALWAYS get me distracted! http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z2247/Dodge_Viper%20Veleno%20RT/10/default.aspx ENJOY!

    08 forged bottom end ??

The ring placement has nothing to do wtih cast vs. forged. The rings have been moving up on all engines -- even the Vipers' -- for the past XX years to reduce crevice volume; i.e., unburned hydrocarbons. the MUCH tigher fit to the bores of a cast piston greatly reduces same said crevice volume...

    Quick Connect Firring Help!!!

Remember the key word in the part description -- it's a quick CONNECT fitting, not a quick disconnect fitting. They are designed for ease of assembly at the plant -- not specific to just the Viper plant -- without a whole lot of regard for service down the road. That's why the tools do exist...

    08 forged bottom end ??

Cast does NOT mean junk! And forged does not always mean wonderful!! Most NASCAR teams are now using cast aluminum pistons, albiet a hypereutectic aluminum. I believe the 6.1L Hemi pistons are eutectic alloy, like the previous cast pistons which were 30% stronger than the original forged...

    New Paint on the GTS

When I see a BRIGHT orange 2-door I keep thinking a rebel flag on the roof and an "01" on the doors would be appropriate. JUST KIDDING!!!!! :D The car looks great! Now, for some buried ghost flames . . . :omg:

    Car hit with Milkshake

Years ago, and I mean YEARS ago, I was attending a regional Porsche event (I still have the 356 I bought 33 years ago) and someone have keyed/nailed into the hood "F%&K YOU" down to bare metal of a very nice 914. I don't even know the owner, but I'm glad I didn't see the perpetrator in the act...
