I'd agree with the point of traction being a key element.
Many Mustang and Corvette enthusiasts don't happen to mention that they have drag radials installed, and from a dead stop traction makes a HUGE difference.
I think that with 3.55s and all of your torque, having super-grippy...
I hope that this rumor is true.
If so, I'm still not sure exactly why DC delayed the announcement because the timing of releasing the new Viper Coupe AND 625HP would have been MUCH better than releasing the new Coupe without any mechanical changes, and having the Z06 get a strong leg up...
I'm guessing that it's a traction issue. I've got 547RWHP and 607RWTQ with 3.55 gears, and I also have serious traction issues with the stock Pilots.
I was short-shifting in 1st and 2nd at 4500RPM to minimize spinning and managed fairly consistant 11.8s@127MPH runs.
But like you I suspect...
As several people mentioned, 100-150 wet shot is no sweat on a '01 Viper.
Just make sure that you have the car dyno tested right after installation to confirm that it doesn't run lean with the nitrous.
Re: Anyone running a 20
I really like the looks of the 20" wheels with those tires.
I prefer the thicker tire out back (on top of filling the wheels well too) and the PS2s have been getting great reviews.
The high desert could be the problem. The 117MPH trap speed shows that the car is likely making a good deal less than 510HP/535TQ.
The only thing that's worse for the Viper than the Z06 Corvette tests coming out so well, is this first run of magazine tests of the SRT Coupe doing so poorly. :(...
I took my ACR wheels to Just Tires as well, and it did cost more to do mounting and balancing (maybe $100 for everything) but they did a good job, and most places couldn't handle the wide rims, plus their balancing was often using old bubble equipment. :(
The one big thing to insist on is...
I believe that the test Z06's were ringers, and that the production Z06s will be doing around a 122MPH trap speed.
Great times Eagle, especially for your first time dragracing the Viper!
Re: 0-100 MPH: SRT10 Coupe and Z06
Motor Trend doesn't hate the Viper at all. In fact they are the ones who got the best (11.77@124MPH) time from the SRT-10 Viper of any magazine, and called it a performance match for the Ford GT (before Ford raised the boost). :2tu:
But it's quite likey...
They are fast, weird and wild. But too close to a motorcycle for me. I like the looks of the T-Rex better than the Atom, but for the price I'd rather have an Elise.
Mopar426,
Your posts do seem to be partial to Corvettes, or perhaps you are looking to provide a counterpoint to the fervent Viper owners who love their car above all others.
I owned a Corvette and loved it, but there is an exclusivity to the Viper that is undeniable. Especially if you...
This was the letter that I sent off to Autoweek's editor yesterday in reference to that article:
Mr. Mandel,
I just had to comment on the comments presented in the Ford GT article:
Published Date: 8/29/05.
With no bi-line I couldn't address this to the culprit author (or tester)
in question...
