My rental has almost 20k on her. I bought it with 9,000 miles. The pedal still feels like the original. I have a carbon-kevlar Archer racing set-up sitting on the shelf when the original starts to go....... Lots of abuse on this clutch and it's still going strong......
Follow your owners manual schedule. After 4-5 years, rubber pieces (hoses, etc) will become brittle as well, check these items. If you have never changed brake fluid, now would be the time. Again, follow what the mfg. has in the manual.
I noticed that some black tarlike substance is on the very front housing of the A/C compressor (north of the belt on the tip of the pully) and has thrown melted tar around the front of the engine bay (very little). Noticed a little rubber burning smell the last time the car came back. Is the...
Re: Pics of \'96 Viper.. need opinion please.
Rick, With just 19k on it, I'd pass. My rental with almost 19k is in MINT condition compared to that car. Who checked it for you? More importantly, beside cosmetics are the fluids. Is the tranny fluid burnt? Overflow tank have anything in it...
This is not a complaint about the car! HELLO!, Issac, you are missing the point as well, read the entire post. The post is about the salemanship on this board and what we are led to believe we need for our snakes every 5000 miles, etc.
The whole post is about challenging posted maintenence...
RX7, You are missing the point here.... SPEND the dime, just at normal maintenence intervals. Changing your plugs at 5000 miles is overkill...... until someone, anyone, shows me otherwise.
Don't get me wrong, I love the car and it's performance, just don't agree with the "change your plugs", "Better buy new wires" thought process on the board. I know regular maintenence is needed, (Look at your owners manual). I'd just like to know where these #'s came from and the proof of...
Mark O, BINGO! The whole point of this post is that I feel that all this is worthless overkill. You don't need all of this stuff. Just my opinion.
MES..Please post a link to the proof of your tread differences.
Viperdrummer, You just need to do a search to realize that these intervals...
Goodness. We all must own the worst possible vehicle on the road today. Think about it, what other car is so poorly made that:
1) You have to replace spark plugs every 5000 miles.
2) Can't go more than 9,000 miles without a new set of wires.
3) Don't take turns too quickly because you'll...
O.K. I started up my snake this morning and the radiator fan went on. I know for a fact that the fan normally doesn't come on until the needle hits the line just after the 3 lines above the 190 mark on the Tempreature guage. The engine was ice cold and it's about 50 degrees outside. Anyone...
I hear that you should never take these off to clean inside them (I haven't yet) because you'll end up not having a good seal. If you take them off regularly, eventually they will not stay in place anymore. True?
I still don't see the need for the line lock. Putting your foot on the gas prematurely would cause other damage with the line lock in place. What are we talking, a milisecond difference?
I missing something here. What is the difference between pushing the brake pedal in and locking the front tires when trying to save the clutch on a hill?
New pilots should show 9/32 as I have a guage also. I have to keep taking readings as if I didn't charge for "EXCESSIVE ABUSE" on the rears, I'd go broke very very quickly. After 4000 rental miles since the new tires and a trip to the track with 8 passes, they are at 8/32 and holding up very...
On the inside of my 96' GTS gas cap cover, I have the following in red letters on a white background:
"Premium unleaded fuel only, super sans plomb seulement"
Do all Vipers have this? Does the wording indicate a Canadian vehicle maybe? My carfax report doesn't indicate any Canada address or...
I've changed all of the fluids as routine maint. incl. coolant, transmission and brakes. I use 10-30 all year but the owners manual indicates 5w-30 if temp. goes below 0. In Chicago, I guess there aren't too many days that we see a true -1 F.(Maybe windchill). I don't believe I have...
