Getting ready for 3000 mile Trip

I made the trip to Asheville (from Toronto) last year - fabulous run down I-79 and I-77. 8 of us from the Ontario Club plan a return in late August (Biltmore, Tail of The Dragon, etc.). After 10,000 miles on my '08 (mostly highway) I find 31 psi (cold) in my PS2s (front and rear) more...

Those b1tch slapped Z06's better think again!!

Why is it so hard to accept the facts? Every road test I've read suggests the ZO6 vs Gen IV 1/4 mile contest is a toss-up? Every one. The fact that most journalists prefer the Vette doesn't make it any faster (or slower). I believe this argument was definitively settled on this very site some...

Quebec to BC...3450 miles in my GTS FE

Welcome to the club. Great to hear from someone who enjoys the car as a daily driver and who, without hesitation, heads out on a trip most people would spend weeks contemplating in any car. I've put 16,000 kms (10,000 miles) on my '08 in 6 months of road time and will probably add another 3-5K...

    8-Speed Automatic

I'm pleased others have considered this concept seriously and I recognize that some have actually made the transition (with mixed results, no doubt), so I won't dispute the very comprehensive, and compelling, arguments presented here. Overall, I would agree that the anti-track rationale...

    8-Speed Automatic

The point of an automatic (vs a manual) is superior shift speed. The point of an underdrive is to keep the motor in its sweet spot, no matter the gear. Using the Tremec 6060's gear ratios as an example, a .78 underdrive (like GearVendor's) gives you a 2.07 second-stage first gear (not a 1.78...

    8-Speed Automatic

I know, I know, it's heresy but... If the 4-speed auto that bolted up to the RAM truck V10 was installed in a Viper with a Gear Vendors under-drive (both properly modified as necessary), I suspect, geared properly, it could be a very mean combo. For the record, I would not consider this...

    fog light repair

Replaced one of mine last week; got a 20% Viper Club discount but still ridiculously expensive for a crappy piece of plastic and a $15 bulb. I'd look around for a pair of aftermarket replacements - I will if there's a next time.

How fast have you driven your Gen IV?

I think it may not run 195/200, if the guy who steals it from under your nose has the cajones. Providing the 3:07s are still in, the car was built for 202 and I recall one test of an '08 rag top that mentioned "some increased wind noise" approaching 195. (Made me laugh.) Another "SUPERCAR...

    Thanks Dodge!

Fabulous record; I don't have the track capabilities of your ACR in my '08 Coupe but I'm gradually getting the feel of it on local track(s) and expect to be in contention - time-wise - before the end of the year. Best thing about the GEN IV is its Jekyll & Hyde temperament, no doubt. Glad...

    My Suggestion Regarding CAAP...

I am a member (Ontario). As we haven't raised the idea this year, if any club is scheduling a visit, I'd like to tag along (meet there), schedule permitting.

    Bummer - 'End of Viper'

The Viper is a money-making proposition to any capable group, organized properly. With a non-unionized CAAP, wholesale (factory) operating margins would have to be in the ~20% range, or ~$13,000 per unit on average annual sales to dealers of 1,600 units @$65K (wholesale). That's >$20 Million...

    ran a zr1 with an 08 cpe

0-150 MPH December '08 Comparison Test between ZR1 and '08 Coupe: Viper: 16.4 ZR1: 17.1 At 150 MPH, car is traveling 220' per second; basic math suggests SRT10 Coupe would be 154' ahead of ZR1 at the 150MPH mark, or 7+ car lengths in front.

    I am not a newbie...

After 7,500 miles, including some track time, I am still adjusting to the new V10's massive torque when in first and second gears (and occasionally in third). I can light the tires up anywhere along the torque curve after 3,000 RPM. If the throttle response was any more immediate, I'd be...

My first dyno pull with the '08 SSG...

With ~4,000 miles on new '08 Coupe, I put up 533 HP and 503 TQ as a baseline last year. I expect more this year as engine is definitely looser (currently 7,500 miles) and car is noticeably faster. Your results are awesome - probably in the top 10% of all '08s posted - and a new benchmark for me.

    Heating up street tires

My experience with my '08 Coupe with PS2s is that one needs both warm asphalt and warm tires; one without the other is a recipe for disaster. Hawker is right: any outside temp below 50F warrants careful attention - my car will skate in third, even when not accelerating forcefully. I took the car...

What age is the Viper Owner ?

58 this May...I waited 'til the engineering caught up with the concept and bought a new Gen IV ('08 Coupe) last summer; also happened to have the extra $ at that time.

    Which car is faster

I remember the original car in '64/65 w/427 ran low 12s, bone stock, if kept in straight line; with slicks, high 11s at local track, low-mid 120s. HP was said to be 485 at the crank so a faithful replica should be putting out ~500. Given the power/weight advantage, a new-tech replica with better...

    At it again............

Typo aside, superb work! What would a custom dash plaque cost? Have you produced Viper trinkets before? I suspect many Viper owners would love a "Built For [or "Handmade For"]....." plaque, or perhaps something more generic, like "Vettes are for pussies."
