...them there's also the thought that a potential new buyer could wonder why it was painted. Was it really just stone chips? Accident damage? You know the story....but buyers can be fickle. Would you believe everything a car seller told you?
To each their own...and good luck with the project.
I have to ask about the hood modifications. I was under the impression that the Gen 1 and gen 2 hoods were different enough that the scoops, etc didn't fit from one to the other.
Me? I find it disturbing to hack up a good Gen 1. I'm not big...
If the car sits...then is slow to start...it's the check valve (for want of a better word) that maintains pressure when the car isn't running. Follow the link Ron lists above to build a primer-timer. I did one from my '96...long cranking problem fixed. Inexpensive and easy...thanks to Tom for...
Different procedure for a gen 2.... It's on this site.
EDIT..Dan...thanks for the update. I didn't think I'd ever heard of syncing the gen 2 in the 14 years I've had one. I posted such. Then, as I posted the message...another thread was at the bottom of the page titled "syncing gen 2.."...
I have restored numerous Chrysler products including two Superbirds. I always preferred the 1960-1970s Chrysler products to most others. I also like Fords and Ford products are my daily cars. I've had Ford trucks for 20 years. I've never been interested in what GM offers.
But...what is a Mopar...
I never gave much thought, or researched why the belts were mounted inboard. Guessing...perhaps it was easier to mount the retractor in the middle than in the cramped area next to the seats by the doors? Just a guess?
I do know that the reason they were mounted on the doors in the early cars...
Gen 1 interior Vipers all had the seat belts mounted on the doors and buckled at the console. UNLESS....it was built for Canada...then they were mounted inboard(center of the car and buckled outboard) like the Gen 2s. (They also have dual language stickers, KM speedo, etc)
I "think" 1995 was the first year for the full, black, pad. I know my 1996 RT came with a pad...and it is substantially different from the pad on my 2000 GTS. I compared the two...and tried to install the Gen 2 pad on my '96 hood. It didn't fit anything like the original.
Since I painted the...
At the risk of being argumentative...I would advise against silicone products. The best for preserving rubber and vinyl is 303. It's recommended by manufacturers. Do a search for 303 Aerospace Protectant.
There's no way to predict what will be a future classic. Anything currently sold as "collectible" will almost certainly never become collectible. Look at the new Challengers...they're all taken to cruise nights an put away. We won't live long enough to see them appreciate to any big degree...
I had that happen once when filling the Excursion. Some woman got out of a tiny car on the ther side of the pump and lamented about gas prices. I agreed. She responds..."Well, maybe if you drove something smaller....no one needs a truck that big.". Me, being a wiseas* says...."it's a...
I saved the first filter from my GTS as I bought it new. I can't put my hands on it now....but I think it was a black Mopar filter with the words "factory fill" or,"factory installed" on it too.
