I'd agree that it depends completely on how you plan to use the car. My RT/10's roof has been on the car once since I bought it. The windows have never been in since it came here. "Real" windows don't show up in an RT/10 until 1997. Mine is a fair weather toy...it's not going out in the rain...
When I had my GTS the shop could not get a match in (I think) PPG and switched to Sikkens. Then it matched. Apparently it had something to do with the metallic flake.
I've always though the 1992-1996 RTs were true roadsters with the side curtains. Anything with roll-up windows...especially if the roof is permanently attached...is a convertible. Why Chrysler calls these obvious convertibles a roaster is beyond me. As soon as the side windows roll up and...
I'm sure no one, including the makers of Dawn...think it's good for regular washing of cars. Use before a detail is fine and I too have been doing these for likely 30 years. Does anyone really believe that Dawn will hurt rubber, etc, when it's on the surface for only minutes before being rinsed...
Here in PA, I loose my "Viper GTS Priviledges" every year from about mid November until March. (Roadster time is even shorter.) Once the salt and cinders hit the streets...they're done. Many roads were salted on Saturday. With the brine they've been using...I don't want any cars in it...
I just re-read this thread. I know there's alot of talk on the web and elsewhere about the hood pads being for fire suppression...but they're not. They'd be lousy at this anyhow.
Chrysler calls it a "silencer" in the parts books as it's there to quiet engine noise. I'd imagine it also helps...
As retentive as I am...my Vipers don't even go out in the rain. In fact, since the 96 RT has been here...it's never had the roof or windows on.
The forecast for our area (outside NE PHilly) was for rain...snow at night...so nobody expected the weather to be that bad...that quick. MY wife was...
..so we're out running some errands today and the storm that's supposed to drop rain...then snow late tonight arrives early. We come out of the store and it's sleeting, with a couple inches already on the ground, coating the cars, etc. I've got the Lincoln so it's no big deal.
Anyhow, we turn...
Part # in the listing is shown as 05245781, which fits up to 1996. 1997-2000 (my books stop at 2000..but I'd expect up to 2002 are the same) lists the center hood silencer pad as 4848025AB. Was the first number just superceded? Viper parts lists the laster # as fitting 1992-2002...but I didn;t...
Great place! The AACA help their Grand National Meet there in 1997 when my Scamp got it's Grand National Senior award. (Highest judged award in the AACA)
I was dissappointed when the event was over as we enjoyed it very much.
For wheels, I have a Daytona brush, but do remove them for cleaning when needed.
For the wheel houses, I've used Zainos tire product forever. A wax applicator pad used just for that (placed in a ziplock until next time) and just wipe the fender wheels. On my '96 and 2000 I can reach in well...
Thanks for the update Gary....I know that area very well. Heading from Feasterville over that hill can be ugly the way traffic backs up.
All the best to you.
I'm so very sorry to be reading this, Gary. Sounds like you are okay and that's what matters. Wow.
I'm be anxiouus to hear what happened with the brakes.
Where did it happen?
Willys are bad ass...we have a show nearby where often two ('40 & '41 if memory serves) come...and they're stock.
I know the current trend is "in the weeds", but I like 'em high in front like a gasser.
Cool ride regardless.
A friend of ours runs a small automotive parts store and they too commented that since the Optima brand changed hands...they've gotten lots of returns. They sell Interestate now with much fewer issues.
I think as importantly as getting a good battery is using a battery tender type device.
Still available from Chrysler. Superceded. Foglight tab slots need to be cut (so they aren't there), and foglights must be replaced to the newer style. Foglight attaching brackets are different too.
A used one will have foglight lense slots already.
One of mine had this problem many years ago. (I can't remember if it was a former or current car..0so YMMV.)
Look between the airbox and the engine. The airbox is retained to a bracket by a pair of screws/bolts. The bracket has slots that allow some verticle adjustment. Loosen them, push the...
If indeed those two pics above are of the same area....I'm wondering why one has the center divit...yet the other appears to have a plug of some sort. What's that about? My 96 has the indentation.
