    SCT v. VEC for boost?

Dan, I think you are thinking I'm saying the SCT does not work. I'm sure it works great. But the VEC works great and has lots of people using it and helping others use it. That is not the case with the SCT. You say you have sold 50 to DIY tuners, but where are they and why don't they post...

    SCT v. VEC for boost?

I talked to him for quite awhile at VOI. I asked him your exact question. He told me that the price jump by Civinco has kind of priced the VEC out of the market. He also said that the VEC hardware is too sensitive to power supply issues and circuitry failures that he doesn't want to worry...

    SCT v. VEC for boost?

I don't have it any more, I sent it back. And the problem wasn't from learning to tune it, it was from technical issues with the program and software, which only the SCT support could fix. I'm not saying the SCT doesn't work, I'm saying its not as user-friendly as the VEC, especially for new...

If your doing a timing cover gasket>>(semi write up)

There are 2 coolant hoses going into the cover there, I'm sure its just one of them cracked/loose.

    SCT v. VEC for boost?

I'll have to agree with Tony. I have never had a problem tuning with the VEC. It is very easy to use, has great support, and works like a charm. I bought an SCT, and I can definitely say none of those apply to the SCT right now. Also, the SCT has no logging capability, terrible customer...

Great update! I can't wait to see what you put down. What are you going to use for tuning? AEM?

    How much transmission fluid?

I know,,, I was just clarifying that it was not a joke. I took your advice and used DEXVI as well on my fluid change. ;) I'm sure Tom will chime in here, but ATF is more popular for manual trans. than gear oils (as Dom mentioned) in newer cars, and more manufacturers are changing their...

    How much transmission fluid?

... or you can go with DEXVI for $5 a quart ;)

    Project: Bullet-proof V-10

Now to use those measurements to calculate the compression ratio. engine displacement (use metric measurements): BORE X BORE X STROKE X .0031416 = DISPLACEMENT 101.6 X 101.6 X 98.6 X .0031416 = 3197.5 This is for the stock bore (4") and stroke (3.88") of the 8.0L engine. These specs are from...

    Project: Bullet-proof V-10

Next I moved on to a cylinder head. I have JM stage3 heads, so your head will probably look a little different. JM states on their site that the stage3 head comes standard with a 75cc combustion chamber volume. I didn't know if my heads were custom ported over what JM usually does with the...

    Project: Bullet-proof V-10

The first thing was to turn the engine stand so that one bank of the block is level. I chose to work with cylinder #1, but that is not critical at all. This will be for measuring piston deck height and quench clearance. I used a dial indicator to find exact top dead center (TDC). I...

    Project: Bullet-proof V-10

A few more updates. I wanted to calculate the compression ratio, quench clearance, and check for range of motion problems. Since I didn't get any specs on the pistons and rods when I bought them, I didn't know exactly what to expect for the compression ratio, other than the seller told me...

    Just got off the dyno

Like I said, who knows who did the headwork. They must not have known what they were doing. The 708 is a stock cam, so you aren't going to see #s much higher than stock n/a.

    Just got off the dyno

Russ, is right. Get a tune. An SCT should work well for you. Also, if you don't know about the heads and cam, you could just have components designed for the wrong setup. Who knows who ported the heads, and the cam could be for a turbo car. :dunno: Once you get that figured out, get some...

    Powder Coating Question?

I don't really like the texture on the stock PC, it just stains easily and looks dingy. The texturing just makes cleaning more of a PITA. I had mine rePC'd in a smooth finish so I could just wipe them down. They look much nicer and the finish is better than stock. BTW, I would be interested...

    4.030 Gen-2 Pistons, NEW, Forged 9:1 w/all options

I ended up with a 9.3:1 with the stock gasket, so I didn't have the choice of going to a thinner gasket. I think my dish is a little less cc than those. But yes, mine do have a different design than those in the dish. The rest looks the same from the pics. It looks like they are...

    4.030 Gen-2 Pistons, NEW, Forged 9:1 w/all options

Great price! Those are just like the ones I'm putting in my engine right now except I'm just staying with the stock bore size. Could you tell us what the comp ratio would be with a stock head gasket?

My new Paint Job 2001 GTS Black/white

Fastmatt is right, those are rivets and there is no reason to take them out and not have them painted. In fact I think it looks better with them painted. BTW, do you not know how to spell 'they' fastmatt? thy is bugging me! lol

What is Best Gear Ratio for DD

Sticky tires are going to limit wheel spin the best. Of course the stock 3.07s are going to give you the better traction of all the gears, but which is going to be more fun ;) I think 3.55s would be great for a Paxton car since you aren't as worried about the instant torque from say a Roe s/c...

What is Best Gear Ratio for DD

I have 3.55s. I had them on the car before I went s/c. They are perfect for n/a. I've been in a GTS with 3.73s and a s/c and its way too low. Absolutely no 1st gear and the shifting seems way too short between gears. I would say you will lose about 1-2mpg on the highway with 3.55s. But the...

My new Paint Job 2001 GTS Black/white

Looks great! Love the black on white combo. And being in NM, the white will be much cooler in the summer than the black ;) You painted your head/tail lights? There is tinted film you can use that you can just peel off if you change your mind - not so permanent. It also sticks to glass.
