Dman it's a pretty easy choice really. Buy a tire that best suites your needs. Quarter mile, buy a drag radial, road course buy a cup sport type tire, street car buy a street tire. If you do a little of all choose based on your needs.
I will usually do a few slow figure 8's in a parking lot to check for diff clunks on a test drive. If the rear is making a noise it's possibly a gear tooth or something else in the diff. I have Eibachs on my car and don't have any clunking from them.

Because of the spinning off issue on Vettes we started using locktite which worked, but as Mike said above you just need to pin the thing and not worry about it. I ended up pinning mine on a blower application with anti seize. I was just making a suggestion if he was worried about it on the...
