Tim Harper who has wrenched all my Vipers since 94, as well as my GTs and other cars recently took part in an SRT event in Vegas. Tim builds drag cars and has often been in Hot Rod Mag.
He was blown away by the new Viper. I told him of the Motor Trend controversy and he seemed very skeptical.
Not sure what " familiar with the car" entails , but lets make it interesting and say $1000.00. After all , a day ago you said the Viper would take it by 2 seconds .( and I have, for now a Launch Edition on order).
Hmmm. Not sure about that. I have a 458 parked next to 2 Vipers in my garage. The 458 is 3 inches longer, and inch wider with a 6 inch wider wheel base. Is the ACR that much different?? Maybe the wing makes it seem that way. (and while I love ACRs I don't think the 458 has a lot of fear)
If I were rich I would add the F 40, and the Miura even though I think Lambo stole from the GT 40 for the Miura design.
A baseball player who lives nearby has the Aventator (and 458). It looks bad a$$ from the rear but to me the rest of it looks funky.
Mine are primarily based on looks:
1. Jaguar E Type Vert
2. BMW 507
3. Ford GT (05-06--I am partial)
4. Ferrari 250 Daytona
5.Tie- 1996 Viper GTS/1957 Corvette
My $300K Ferrari 458 only has 570 HP and now you tell me the new Viper is just 640? When I get mine I am gonna give Fiat a piece of my mind as to both , damn it.
C'mon guys, we are beginning to look a bit dumb to our car enthusiast buddies. Carp about looks or this and that if you will, but...
In the May 2012 Hemmings Classic Car there is an article on Iacocca . In it he says he once had a lot of cars in his collection but now has a few including Viper 00001. There is a small pic of him in the Viper. He also has a few Mustangs,of course.
Not only read the story I have the original in laminated hard copy. It came out after my order and it says to celebrate the Vipers final year of production. There is no question that the 2010 FEs were being marketed by dealers as the end of Viper. Believe me I was on 3 lists. At the time Dodge...
Jerry, respectfully there were several of us on waiting lists long before those articles for the Final 50 Edition being told " get it now the last 50 Vipers". I have been around cars long enough not to be naive enough to think the name /car would not return. However, there was a fair amount of...
IMO, forget about numbers. Everyone makes fast cars now. In 92 Viper made an insane splash based on looks and power, and they carried that through Gen2, perhaps the high water mark for design. Dodge kept making power but lost its way in the design dept. after Gen 2.
For Gen. 5 SRT needs a...
23 years or so ago, Chrysler President Bob Lutz was gazing at his Autocraft Cobra and wondering why his company, then known in large part for K cars, could not build something utterly off the wall and similar to his Cobra.
He convinced Lee Iacocca to give him a modest budget and 33 months later...
Through 9 Vipers I have never had a seat lowering kit--though I have ruined a couple of bolsters along the way. Once I am in I am fine but the older I get the more of a chore it is getting in and out of any of these cars.
On driving or not driving the GT, it does cause some angst. I had 3 now...
