    OS Giken Differential in Viper

Hello, This bit describes what I was saying, quoted from above: That preload is always there in the clutches, even with the throttle closed. Stabilize = understeer. Again, this isn't necessarily a negative thing so don't take it as such. More clutches (or specifically, more clutch...

Exp w radial slicks on roadcourse?

A6's will be faster than R6's for something like qualifying, but the autocross-derived A compound is more likely to overheat in an extended lapping session or race. Heavier car, higher ambient temps, shorter straightaways, etc., will make it worse. Either DOT Hoosier will be slower than a...

Exp w radial slicks on roadcourse?

Slicks are faster than A6 or R6, though the difference isn't what is was 2-3 DOT tire generations ago. Probably more like 1-2 seconds on a typical track instead of 2-3. R80 is a Hoosier-specific compound specification and is meaningless when comparing between brands. Dunlop, Yokohama, and...

    OS Giken Differential in Viper

Reduced corner entry understeer is not a characteristic of clutch-type limited slip differentials vs. the stock Viper units or a Quaife/torsen. It'll make it worse. A 1.5-way won't be as bad as a 2-way or spool though - the "original torque setting" (quote from below) is still greater than...

Will Gen 4 exhaust fit Gen 3?

Is that all it is? One long-ass muffler instead of the Corsa's 2 mufflers per side? Is it straight-through with packing or is there some bouncing-around resonance stuff inside? I just wonder how that's going to end up as much quieter than a Corsa. Looks like I may want to get one of the...

J-Rho autocrosses an SRT-10 in SCCA SS class

Here's another video from a recent practice- The car was understeering quite a bit, lots of slow corners on this course. Really getting geared up now for Nationals next month.

Will Gen 4 exhaust fit Gen 3?

You guys have some used ones that can go for cheap? Maybe I can trade you for my barely-used Corsa track? Pick-up in Lincoln next month? :)

Will Gen 4 exhaust fit Gen 3?

Do you guys think the '08 system will get under 93db at 50' and WOT on an otherwise stock '04? I went from straight pipes to a Corsa track system, and my car is still way too loud. If anybody has a stock exhaust for sale and local pickup in So Cal, please let me know.

    Differential Swap Question

Yep, to pull the halfshafts you either have to pop the ball joints, or unbolt them all from the chassis along with the rear brake calipers.

    1st Autocross...need tire pressure tips

Hi George, This autocross season is going well, things are really starting to come together for the Viper. I do believe I finally have the diff situation worked out to the point things are workable. Planning my trip to Nebraska for the national champsionships, this will be the first time I've...

    1st Autocross...need tire pressure tips

Hi George, I would recommend mid 30's front pressure and low 30's rear. The tires should behave fine. If you're going to be doing a lot of autocross or track stuff, I'd recommend an alignment with some negative camber, especially up front. The car will work a lot better around the corners...

    OS Giken Differential in Viper

For a car that seems a decent % of street use in addition to performance driving, I'd recommend the Quaife. For a pure autocross car (in a class where you can change the diff), I would recommend the OS Giken. For a pure track car, I would recommend the driver test both rear ends to see...

    Help Translating Alignment/Cross Balance Specs . . .

Mark, that's about equal to the most caster I've been able to get in mine once negative camber is maxed out. Have you guys been able to get more caster than that at maxed out negataive camber and stock ride height?

    Help Translating Alignment/Cross Balance Specs . . .

"Wedge" is a circle-track term. Since circle-track cars only turn left, they can change the under/oversteer characteristics by changing the corner weights. You can't change total front or rear weight, or left or right weight, but you can change how much the LF + RR vs. RF + LR carries. For...

    Tire Rotation Question . . .

Autocross is going well. Car has some great new shocks, and the freshly rebuilt diff works well. Had a win in Wendover and still have a couple tricks up my sleeve for Nationals. Here's a recent run, the rear tires were pretty much dead, time for some new ones I think...

    Tire Rotation Question . . .

Pretty anal about this stuff - are you a surgeon or something Rich? :omg: ;) Balance and TPMS will be fine if you switch side-to-side. If you were doing this with slicks they might be a little weird for the first few corners as the rubber grain gets "used to" going that direction, but...

    F/S ZX3P wheels in classifieds

Looks like these are stock size right? My stock-size CCW SP16As are 23/26 lbs, interested to see how these compare. I'll be staying in Stock for a while, wondering if there's lighter options besides the sidewinders. Thanks, and good luck with the sale, those are great looking wheels!!

J-Rho autocrosses an SRT-10 in SCCA SS class

I've thought about it - would need to do something about brake pads and ducting though. Safety is a little of a concern also in a car this fast. If I ever find myself with some extra tires to kill, maybe. I used to do a lot of track stuff in the S2000 days...

J-Rho autocrosses an SRT-10 in SCCA SS class

Unlocking the Hydra-Lok As mentioned throughout this thread, I'm racing (well, autocrossing) my car in a class where I'm not allowed not change out the limited slip. As such, I am interested in maximizing the capability of the factory Hydra-Lok unit, as autocross puts just about the most...

    Trick to removing limited slip?

Here's what ended up working - dropping 1-2" the diff casing on a solid plane of a vice. A few gentle drops, alternating side to side, got the limited slip loose. Time to dissect that sucker - thanks everyone!

J-Rho autocrosses an SRT-10 in SCCA SS class

Did a local event yesterday with a fresh limited slip in the car. The power-on behavior was much improved, with little to no wheelspin anywhere. Think I finally got the cocktail right. Unfortunately the tires, rears especially, were at the end of their useful life, so the car wasn't as fast...

    Trick to removing limited slip?

Ok so my Hydro-Lok wore out. I've got the diff out of the car and on the workbench. I've got the stub axles out and the bearing caps off. Still, the thing seems stuck in there really good. I've done this sort of diff work on at least 5-6 other cars, and some took a little prying, but they...

Exhaust - no cats or mufflers

No mufflers at all in an SRT-10 is just oppressive. I bought my car that way (still with stock headers and cats), and it just plain wasn't fun at all on the street. I had to wear earplugs any time I was in the car for more than a couple minutes. It was fine when racing but awful everywhere...

Gen 3 and Gen 4 spring rates?

The '08 and up cars have 5% stiffer springs, supposedly due to the new PS2 tires. The front and rear suspension motion ratios are quite a bit different, with the rears being "softer". The wheel rates, which is what you're usually interested in for handling, aren't very different front to rear.
