Are the gen2's too affordable now ?

If suddenly, nobody paid attention to vipers anymore... I suspect alot of folks wouldn't own them anymore. Fortunately, I don't see that happening. LOL. Agree 100% I know a self-proclaimed "car guy"...wears driving jacket to match his car, gloves to change an air filter, and has a...

    Stump the Chump

I don't think it's the problem, but isn't 60psi+ rail pressure a bit on the high side??

    Prefilling Oil Filter

I'm sorry if I gave the impression of dismissing the pump's importance. That wasn't my intention at all. The oil pump is indeed critical, but so is the rotation of the crank, especially in the first few seconds after cranking. Well yes, but the velocity (rotational) of the journal is just as...

    Prefilling Oil Filter

You do realize that at startup, it is a hydrodynamic behavior, right? The velocity at the oil-film "wedge" has everything to do with the crank getting up off the bearing and reducing wear. Much more likely at startup RPM than cranking RPM. The pump also does more work with RPM. If you feel that...

    Prefilling Oil Filter

You want technical? Here... have at it: Hydrodynamic Bearings Well, it's technically not dry after just an oil-change. And from the above link: Hydrodynamic bearings rely on bearing motion to suck fluid into the bearing and may have high friction and short life at speeds lower than...

    Prefilling Oil Filter

Another tip is to clean/wipe the threads of the oil filter out good with a lint-free rag before installing. If you haven't already seen it, you'll be amazed at the metal dust left on those threads from their cutting process. And in reply to someone above asking: No, you shouldn't crank...

    Oil pressure gauge at 0

I agree with having them check the rods and mains...and best to check all of them too, not just a couple. If they try to tell you otherwise and say it will be fine, then get them to put it in writing. Sure, it's a robust engine and might be fine, but make sure it's on them if it happens...

    My DIY twin turbo build..

Your friend wouldn't be Mike from DesMoines would it? I went down the same path AndyMac is on now. One scavenge pump wasn't quite enough so we added a second. Also used residual pressure "check" valves above both turbos and backflow prevention valves after both turbos to keep them dry when...

    Clutch Suggestions

Well... I'm almost embarassed to say it was a stock, unmachined flywheel. I took off the stock clutch, scuffed up the flywheel surface with scotchbrite, and installed the SPEC 3+. I am positive that this is the reason it had a little chatter/shake for the first few hundred miles...as the...

    Clutch Suggestions

I put a 3+ on a turbo '99 that made 750ftlbs. Noticed a little shake/chatter when it was new. After 500-600 miles, it was not noticable at all. Drove great.

SCT or Split Second Box Paxton Setup

I used a Split-Second fuel/timing calibrator on a twin-turbo '99 RT10. It allowed timing retard under boost as well as fuel trimming for the 60# injectors I used. After tuning, it drove like stock around town and also managed to get better fuel mileage out of it. Dyno'd 746hp and 750tq at 12psi.

    Difference between 96 RT/10 clutch and 97 RT/10 clutch/pressure plate?

Roysviper, if it's not going into gear while running, that means the clutch disk is dragging/spinning and not stopping... Could be disk or pressure plate related but also seen dislodged pilot bearings cause drag. Might want to have them inspect the clutch at SPEC. They will look at it.

Intermittent Squeal - Replace Lifters or Throwout Bearing??

Pilot bearing possibly? Had a friend that would get a "squealing" noise at random times...pilot bearing replaced and sound was gone.

    University Dodge - Clutch Problem

If a slave "goes out," the pedal usually goes to the floor and you loose resistance... The diagnosis of Master cylinder is more than likely correct, but it also might just be something in a bind with the linkage that connects the clutch pedal to the master cylinder rod. That is up under the...

Question for turbo or supercharger guys...

Works like a champ! However, when tapping for a -8AN return fitting at the factory feed hole, it gets real thin so we actually chose to weld up some aluminum there and then tap it to avoid potential cracks/leaks. Just spot-paint red and you'll hardly notice. And those pipe-plugs at the back...

Question for turbo or supercharger guys...

That's what we did. The factory stuff is tiny so we ditched it. Can't see it in the pic, but where the stock fuel line feeds the intake, we drilled/tapped for a -8AN and used that for a return. On back of the intake, we removed the pipe plugs from each bank and tapped again for double -8AN...

    Another "Creampuff Cam" question

I have a buddy just South of DesMoines with a '99 RT10 (which I twin turbo'd in 2008 for him). Has the "708" cam in it and is a very distinctive idle sound. You guys are probably in for a rough winter, but come spring, hit me up and I'll get you his number so you guys can meet up. -Matt...

    Electric door latch defective

Yes. The wires tend to fray and can break inside the harness that goes from the door to the body. Pic below is what it looked like when I fixed one on a '99. Just solder and heat-shrink the broken wire(s) and that's it. Doesn't hurt to put a little lithium grease on that mess of wires before...
