Todd,
The TA's rotors use one-time hat hardware so it was recommended not to take them off if I could avoid it. What I've found since sanding them is that under harder braking the brakes seem almost normal again feeling and sounding. Perhaps the rotors needed a bit of bedding material on them...
Hey Bob. I agree, and suspect we won't see any shift in focus now that it's a Dodge, and the car should nicely fit their definition of a halo car for that brand as is very well. I can see the plans for a vert being announced next month maybe, but that's about it until the next Gen when they...
While that is true, what most buyers want has never been the vision for the Viper that I can tell, and certainly isn't for Ralph and team by his own words. We all seem to want to make the car into what we think is best, or what we think will sell more cars, but those are our goals and GM's with...
When do you recommend to swap them out, Mark....at maybe 1.5 times backer plate thickness? Wednesday's track day is local, but the next 2 are 10 hrs away at VIR where I will not want to be changing pads, nor will I be pushing that hard I suspect. I'll order new pads tomorrow to have them on hand.
Today I sanded off the pad deposits as much as possible (very small amount left), removed the pads to examine, checked for free movement of pads, and re-assembled. I noticed that almost all of the deposits were on the exterior rotor surface, with very little on the inside. I checked with a...
Todd,
You might want to consider starting a thread just covering your different brake set-ups, and experience with them. You're blazing a trail with the GTS brakes, and others will be following that could benefit from your experience. You could update the thread as you go.
Todd,
I'm waiting to hear back from the dealer today, but am planning to pull a wheel and try a bit of sanding. My pads show little wear so far, but I wasn't pushing the brakes as hard as I will be now that I'm starting to lean on it more. So early days for me still, but my preference will be...
Thanks for all the feedback. I'm waiting to hear from my dealer, whose probably waiting to hear from SRT, and I'll let you know. Right now I'm considering doing a lapping day next Wed to see if it clears up or gets worse. They aren't grabbing or pulsing really, so doesn't seem to be a safety...
The Gen V probably still isn't on the radar of most buyers looking for a world class exotic. Old reputations and opinions take a lot to change, and a long time. The major car improvements were made, but marketing of the new car has been hit and miss. When Viper enthusiasts have been slow to...
Thanks for all the feedback guys. If anyone has a link covering rotor removal please let me know and I may have a go at it sanding it off, especially if it's possibly going to be a recurring issue to resolve. I've done rotors and pads on the other track cars so why should this one be any...
Hey Bob, I may have had closer to a couple of hundred of very easy driving cruising home from the dealer before thinking about bedding the brakes, and then went out and made maybe 6-8 progressively harder brake applications from higher speed. In hindsight, I may have not braked hard enough...
I developed this following my 4th track day. Pedal doesn't pulse as with a warped rotor, but a roughness can be felt and heard. When I examined the front rotors I saw the patchy deposits, with the rears being perfectly clean. I thought I had bedded in the pads with a few progressively harder...
A track friend just bought a C7 Z51 with magnetic suspension and 7 speed manual. Keeping his GT-R with DCT, but bought the Vette with a stick for daily drive to work in summer and track lapping days. Manual more fun for him even if it's a tad slower than a computer shifting for him, and I'm...
Posted in new thread covering that event
I've contacted NARRA and waiting for response, but I wouldn't let anyone drive my car at 10/10ths. The best excuse I've heard a pro driver give for wrecking someone elses car while demonstrating his skill was.."It had grip...and then it didn't". No...
Re: Track Attack #3 (Mosport), #4 (Mont-Tremblant)...and 2400 mile road and track rep
Thanks, Allan, and it is indeed a real treat. I've tracked for many years, and some events get the type you don't want to be on track with. I'm selective about the event organizers I drive with, and they are...
Some good observations but poor conclusions. At this level the car's personality is key to a buyer's decision. These cars are about as different as is possible in the $100+k range, and buyers of each will likely use them differently. Just because you can track or drag both doesn't mean any...
Great write-up, and music to my ears! Congrats on getting it on the track. Hope to hear about more of your track adventures in the future!
Bruce
Black TA
Last week was a busy one with my 3rd and 4th lapping days, and I now have 4 weeks of ownership, and 2400 miles of combined road and track seat time. The Viper is likely as distracting to a new owner as it obviously is to many others who see it, and I discussed driving in distracted state of...
Thanks guys
That's Bruce D. from the Quebec owner's group. I expect a lot more close-up footage of me following him the next time...hopefully!
I haven't decided yet, but I've got it narrowed down to orange, black or white ;) But at this point it appears like black may be the fastest!
Got...
Thanks guys!
Here's a photo from this event...

I forgot to address Randy Pobst's comment about the unnerving sensation of the rear moving around at high speeds. I feel it near the end of the back uphill straight in the video where I'm doing 140+ mph. There's a kink (T7), and then a slight throttle lift as you crest the hill before a brief...
