    SCCA Run Offs

My "Day One" for the 2010 SCCA Run Offs is every one else's "Day Three," as I stayed in Ohio to drop my daughter off at Ohio State on Sunday, and hence missed Monday's qualifying session. Tuesday was on "off" day for STO. My qualifying effort today was a massive disappointment for me. I am...

Thanks guys. I am looking forward to Sunday's race. It should be fun.

Off to the SCCA Run Offs

Tomorrow (Tuesday), I leave for Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin to race in the 2010 SCCA Run Offs. This year I am running in the STO class, rather than T1. The differences? T1 the car weighted 3600 lbs and breathered through a 45mm inlet. STO the car weights 3300 lbs and has a 60mm inlet. Much faster...

'08 hood to '03 air box potential problems?

I have a Gen IV hood on my 2006 Coupe and have experienced no issues with the airbox (or anything else for that matter).

Fergy's crash at Hallett and Viper Cup Race videos

The car in the video was my old 2004 SCCA T1 racer. I sold it this January and now run an SCCA STO 2006 Coupe.

Fergy's crash at Hallett and Viper Cup Race videos

All four fenders, both rockers :omg:, and both front and rear bumber covers were damaged. The frame was straight, beleive it or not. A few A-arms needed to be replaced, though. It took a month to get the car fixed, then my first race after this incident was at Watkins Glen (my favorite track)...

    Viper Days @ Pocono

Who is going to the Viper Days event at Pocono Sept 10-12? I am going up on Sunday to check out the ACRx event, so if anyone from here is going it would be nice to meet up. I can't be there on Saturday 'cause I will be standing on the sidelines of a big time college football game. :D

    carbon fiber hoods

I just spoke to them, and they don't offer the rear window for the 2006+ coupes. The Comp Coupe yes, but not the street car.

    NASA Mid Ohio Report

With the extra weight I had to run in T1 (3700 lbs in 2008!) plus the 45mm restrictor plate allowing the motor to make only 430 RWHP, I was actually able to increase my horsepower a bit to meet the 8.7:1 number (with adjustments, of course).

My first track day ...I want more... advice appreciated

Safety equipment...safety equipment. Seriously consider a track-only car with a cage and proper safetyy equipment when you are going those speeds. I may be a wimp, but that's why I got out of HPDE's and into racing...safety.

My first track day ...I want more... advice appreciated

The SCCA T1 track record is a 1:31.5xx. I don't know how 'soft" that is, but it gives you an idea of what to shoot for.

My first track day ...I want more... advice appreciated

Harnesses for both seats Good brake pads (I use and recommend Carbotech) Hoosier A6 tires Stainless steel brake lines alignment protective tape for leading edges of car body Lots of water for driver Seat time, seat time, seat time. I have raced a SCCA T1 Viper for 4 years. T1 is very close...

    06 engine failure

Oil pump pickup tube is different sizes from Gen 3 to Gen 4. I had my shop do the conversion. But Viper Specialty does have a complete set up that works very well. Call Dan.

    06 engine failure

Get a Gen 4 oil pan, NOT the Gen 3. I broke two motors because of long sweeping right-hand turns vs left handers. You will have to have some fabrication done, or get hold of someone who has done this before, but it is well worth the investment.

Last of the laps: I drove my 2004 Viper that was 99% an SCCA T1 car. I sold it this January after running it in an STO race in Sebring.

Boy, Do I Have Problems Now...

He jsut graduated, works for the family business and does very well, but the car was a gift from his parents. His father and uncle own a successful business, enough that both own and race expensive race cars, as does the young man in question and his cousin. He doesn't act at all like a...

Boy, Do I Have Problems Now...

There's a funny story that goes with your comment. Last February my daughter had a date with a kid who was a first year student at West Point. So, I am wondering how I am going to make the "proper" impression on him: I don't own any weapons, and even if I did, he has more... Me racing...

Boy, Do I Have Problems Now...

It was good meeting you as well. I have been getting some pretty good starts lately; I like to attribute some of the success to the torque of the Viper's motor, but there was a Comp Coupe that I passed Sunday, so maybe that's not all of the reason. I am rather proud of this car. I think the...

Boy, Do I Have Problems Now...

You guys will get a kick out of this... Some of you know that my wife and I have a daughter. She's not too bad looking, if I have to say so myself. Yes, I realize I am biased... Well, she has this new young man calling on her. Nothing serious at all, but at her age every guy needs to be vetted...
