Last year a Corvette driver was arrested at the Horsepower Challenge. Perhaps if we could get Charles to fire up his 1200 hp Corvette and it blows up he’ll be arrested for an act of terriorism. I’m sure it would scare the children in the hospital to see a Corvette blow up before their eyes.
I...
George, glad you'll be able to make it. Don't forget your dyno slip.
This year it's the Viper Club's turn to have someone arrested at the Horsepower Challenge. I was thinking you'd like to volunteer. :)
The VA/MD VCA has challenged the Corvette Club of Virginia to a “Horsepower Challenge” on September 15, 2007 to see which club can get the most horsepower to a charity event at the Children’s Hospital in Richmond, VA.
Last year we had 20 Vipers and really smoked them (pun intended if you’ve...
Here is the "King of the Hill" trophy for the Viper with the most horsepower and along with two close up shots of it:
Here are the first, second and third place trophies for judged Vipers:
Below are the awards for the "King of the Hill" car club for the Horsepower Challenge. I sure hope we don't have to use the one to the Corvette Club of Virginia. With the 2008 Viper having 600 horsepower it would be a shame for the Corvette Club to be the "King of the Hill" car club.
I picked...
Great! So far it looks like you're going to be "King of the Hill."
Schedule:
Arrive 10:00 AM – 12:00noon
Judging 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM
Award ceremony 3:30 PM – 4:00 PM
Who all is going to be able to help us beat the Corvette Club of Virginia this year? Below is an email from Charles Hawkins, past president Corvette Club of Virginia. He’s talking a little smack. We’ve need to make it two years in a row that we put them in their place.
Below are a few photos from the first Horsepower Challenge which was held at the Children's Hospital in Richmond, VA. We lost that year by 1/2 of a Viper.
Here Santa Claus visit with the children:
The Vipers and Corvettes lined up nose to nose:
Our president awards the trophy to the...
The Viper club will judge the Corvette club’s cars and the Corvette club will judge our club’s Vipers. I need three volunteers to judge the Corvette club’s cars. Lee Stubberfield, who is a nationally recognized expert on Corvettes, has volunteered to head up our team of judges. If you are...
We’re going to have a “Horsepower Challenge” again this year in Richmond, VA. The event will be part of the “Christmas in September” event at the Children’s Hospital on September 15, 2007. This is a charity event for the Children’s Hospital. Last year’s “Christmas in September” yielded...
Below is an invitation I received for VCA to participate in a track event at Virginia International Raceway on June 30 - July 1, 2007. There will be 4 hours of track time and the cost is $295. I believe one Viper has already signed up.
I confirmed with Tony that a removable hardtop can be used...
At the National Street Rod Show in Knoxville I talked with the Kwiklift representative about the size of the width of the ramps. I was having a problem on occasion with the Kwiklift scooting on the garage floor and I attributed it to the narrowness of the ramps. I now believe I was wrong about...
Wes Wolf’s wife has some very serious health issues and Wes will not be able to show us his car collection at this time. So we will drop this portion of the cruise.
Bernie, what about May 26? I think George Murry may be planning something in the Tidewater area on either May 26 or 28. I've got a call into him. Perhaps he could organize a cruise to your open house for his event.
May 12 is the NAPA Car show. It's held at the NAPA at 800 Southlake Blvd...

My Viper Days instructor encouraged me to change the way I was holding the shift knob to minimize the likelihood of missing a shift. The technique he taught me was to keep my palm almost vertical instead of wrapping my fingers around the shift knob. The goal is to keep the contact with the knob...
I have one and love it. I have a 39 Chevy street rod and end up spending time under it keeping it going. The Kwiklift makes oil changes a snap. It also makes it easier to flush the brake lines before taking the Viper to the track.
One slight issue is getting a floor jack that raises the...
