I was looking at getting my racing license in Ontario and I am required to be a member of a car club that is affiliated with CASC-OR http://www.casc.on.ca/ Has the VCO ever dabbled in the idea? I see quite a few other car clubs involved.
Have you left your car without a battery for a while or have you had to boost it after a long time of storage? Because if your battery has been fine without issue then I don't think replacing it right away is the solution.
