I read and heard same thing!!
BUT when I called "Chrysler Financial" this is what they told me.

"There is no way we would offer 0% financing on a $75,000 vehicle, that would be NUTS".

6.15% is the rate right NOW!!

Makes sense. Doing all the paperwork for three $25,000 cars at 0% sounds much more reasonable

6.15% is pretty attractive, 5 year payment with nothing down would be 1455.20, total interest percentage 14.10%, interest payments of $12,311.76 over 5 years with real interest (assuming 1.5% inflation) at $11,781.40. Throw a little money in up front and those figures come down fast. So for the interest costs of a nice watch you get 5 years of an incredible car with clear title at the end. Not bad...

We are currently at 5.9% with approved credit, but I know there has been alot of folks out there that are hoping for a 0% for a set period of time. I would believe that a low percentage for say 24-36 months , increasing at 48 and 60 months would have a big impact on sales , as I know alot of other Dealers I have talked to have mentioned the large number of sales they have lost to 0% on Corvettes. I know of 5 deals we have seen disappear, due to this, and hopefully if we all let DC know of our desires, who knows. The current program does not have any special rates on Vipers, so we worked to get 5.9%, and this is pretty stout as it is for 60 months.

Here's my take:

The only vette that's even close to performance of our Vipers is a '02 405HP Z06 (and there's still a huge difference between the two cars)....so,

Go try to find a Z06 for even slightly under sticker... not going to happen (maybe a smidge under..sometimes OVER sticker). Now, walk or call one of our faithful Viper dealers (Woodhouse, Buhler, to name a few). As Bill said, they'll offer you a very low 5.9% deal vs the bowties 2.9% (that's right, GM is NOT 0% for 5 years...just 2.9%!) .. so the difference is 3%...and I can assure you that their discount on the Vipers will make up just about ALL of the difference in interest (maybe more!)

If it's easier for you to rationalize the purhase at 2.9%, I'm sure Darren (Buhler) or Bill (Pemberton/Woodhouse) will be glad to sell you a Viper at sticker (as you would have to do for a Z06) and then pay down "the points" with the discounts that they normally offer EVERY Viper customer ALL year round, so that you can say you got 2.9% financing.

SO:

$40,000 @ 5.9 = $6287 total interest paid

$40,000 @ 2.9 = $3018 total interest paid

GM dealer discount on 405 HP Z06 = 0!

Buhler/Woodhouse discount on new 450 HP AWESOME SNAKE = (I'll let you figure it out!)

Net discount to you? = VIPER WINS (again!)

Make sense?

There is another option when it comes to buying high priced cars.
For those of us that own homes, an equity loan.
There are some disadvantages, but there are many advantages.
You can choose a longer payback period (=lower monthly payment),
and you get to deduct the interest paid on your tax return.
For those of us in NY (and NYC) in the higher brackets that could be a saving of well over 40%.
Some banks are offering rates around 6% with no fees whatsoever.
So for some of us it may be worth looking into.

$70,000 for 10 yrs at 6%=$777 monthly
Total paid at end of 10 yrs 93,257
Total interest 23,257
Total tax savings depends on your rate but 40%=$ 9303
Total cost of auto net of tax savings $83,954

The Zero down, Zero interest, and Family and Friends deal; just (Wed.)put me into a 2002 Jeep G.C. Ltd. Overland. Amazing deal, I could not pass on this deal. (Thanks E., for the F and F Cert.) I really like our Jeep GC 5.9 but the new Overland has 265 hp. Not bad for a Sport Ute.

Point being, Payment Terms will sell cars!

Have any of you guys drove the new z06 yet. Dont mock it till ya tried it. I havent tried a viper yet, but performace wise the cars look very close and the Z has a nicer interior, but maybe its just nicer cause i have the extra $26,0000 in my pocket. And yes i did get a discount on my Z. I ordered it in the begining of August and got $1200 off.

Oakhurst? My shop is right on 35! Give me a call! Maybe we can do a follow up on the great GM High Tech Mag article!

..and by the way, $26K in your pocket? Maybe you'll buy lunch? LOL!

Congrats on the car!

I have to agree with Steve. Owned vettes for almost 20 years, but a Viper is a different trip.

I have driven the 2002 ZO6, nice car. Now is it in the league of a Viper?

The funny thing is that those Viper's cost about the same new as a ZO6 does today. And guess what, it is still just a VETT! And before you start crying that I have no right to say that, keep in mind that I have owned some of GM's finest (67 big block convert). ZO6 great interior, great ride, bland looks, and guess what, it will never generate one half of the thrill that the Viper (yes even the older ones) will. If you want a civilized performance car, the ZO6 is for you. If you are a little on the crazy side, and like something special.......need I say more?

The fact that someone is buying a ZO6 over a Viper because of the finance rate tells me that that is a person who just does not get it.

With good credit, you can lease a "no $ down" Viper for under $1,300/month (51 month lease with 39 month return). Last 3 months are w/o factory warranty.

If anyone is interested I'll "hook you up" with my leasing agent.
