need help in making a choice between a 01 gts or 02

02 3500 miles, solid color, Dealer local, handed me over to a salesman who has sold cars for 6 months and has zero viper knowledge. Management treated me like a red headed step child.

01 0 miles, stripes, Dealer 200 miles away, The most knowlable sales person I ever had the pleasure of dealing with. These guys know vipers. Whole staff treated me with respect and of course wanted to sell the car but never pushed. I love the look of this car.

The 01 is $1500 less. I know that the 02 is probably a better deal, but I also hate to reward those sh-- heads with a sale.

What would you do?

Which way would you go

Seriously... for the kind of jack we're talking here, you need to be treated like a KING. No difference in the 01 and 02s, unless it's the last 02 (which may command a higher price down the road).

Call Bill Pemberton. at Woodhouse. Toll free #. He will give you a price that is delivered right to your house. Usually way cheaper with delivery than your local Dealer swinging for that Home Run profit on the one or two Vipers they sell per year. After you get his #'s you will be able to compare your deals locally and maybe get some leverage for them to come down in price and match.

Chuck 98R/10 Given apples to apples 2or 3 years down the road don't you think a 2002 will be worth more than a 01.

If you really want a newer car or want a specific color in 2001 or 2002, then do some research first and check autotrader.com. The price on the newer cars really has crashed. With some of the problems with 2001's I would stay away from 2001's and get a 2002.

If you want to save about $20,000.00 or ,more, and get basically the same car and get a better motor, then go with an earlier gts model,1996-1997 and buy buy the 51 month/51,000 miles extended warantee. Thats what I did.

There is a local dealer here in town that has a 2002 gts with stripe (no ACR) that they really wants to get rid of.

They have been trying to get me to buy it, but I bought a 1997. They are willing to sell it actual invoice. $72,300.00, if you are interested.

Bird, I don't buy cars with any investment thoughts at all. But if I did, the 01 has 0 miles so I assume you would be the original owner? That would make up for the year difference.

Bird:

First of all, posting at 5:30 AM tells me you are a SINCERE buyer and Viper enthusiast!

Regardless of what you decide, you are in the "Viper Wizard Region" here. You would do yourself a favor and call Chuck Tator at Tator's Dodge 914 763-3136. Ultimately, he will be the best Dealer you will deal with (certainly in the NY/CT area...MHO). I'm not sure how he might handle selling you one of the cars you have in your sights (or an alternative), but after the purchase...HE'S YOUR MAN!

Good Luck!

IMHO- be the first owner!

Thanks everyone for your help. Took the plunge and bought the 01 from Buhler Dodge. Paul was the salesman good guy. I think DC should certify viper sales people same as techs, I can't imagine how many people have walked away from a viper due to the treatment they got. These guys have to realize most of us have purchased more cars than they have sold.I guess this is why so few get so many viper sales.

In the classifieds on this site, I noticed just a few weeks ago, there was a new '01 GTS listed by a dealer in OK who was asking $66,500.

Also, if you want great knowledge, no pressure, good prices and want to deal with a VCA site sponsor, large Viper volume, 5-star dealer, don't forget to call John Gastman of Roanoke Motor Co. in Illinois at 800-541-6858 (romocoinc.com)

The color is Sapphire/Silver. 179 miles on the car. Paid 67,500. I'll pick it up next week and post pictures then. Thanks to all for your help.
