I bought a spare black dash for my 94 last week from parts rack, his last one, and i still need the triangle looking black pieces for my doors (he has one door side in stock), what i was wondering is, are we going to be able to find replacement parts for our cars when we need them, or are the parts going to disappear and anything we dont have extras of are just going to have to be bought used?

Unfortunately, many of the contractors which were supplying Chrysler with Viper parts have gone out of business. One hopes that the people there had the foresight to save the molds/dies/jigs for Viper specific parts.

Owners groups for some older aircraft have successfully acquired molds/dies/jigs in order to insure the supply of replacement parts to keep their planes flying. The Luscombe foundation is one such group. Other than the occasional message on the VCA forum, there has been no interest from the VCA to pursue this type of activity on behalf of Viper owners.

You can get aluminum pieces for the doors.
I think I remember the ones I've seen have a snake logo. Someone could grind and polish the logo out of the piece. It could be painted to match the new dash.

For the RT, I think that one of these days, the sport bar pad will be the hard to get item.

The Sport Bar Pad is already tough to get, and DC raised it's price a while back to boot. You can get a new one for around $1000.

jeffdai,

You are correct in that you will be needing to find used parts, as some parts are already gone. What DC has on hand is all there is left.

I have a nice, new looking one that I bought on ebay about 18mo ago.
I was able to sell my old one for almost as much. Go figure.

I have been thinking for some time about how hard it would be to make a mold for a plastic replacement.

Seems like someone will have to do this sooner or later.

The other idea was to make it of aluminum on a computer controlled machine.

Or, if not aluminum, perhaps machine it out of plastic or even hard wood.

The bar itself is just a curved piece. The part with the bolt holes could be a metal insert.

Thinking about it, I'm sure that if I wanted to, I could make a very nice one by hand out of hardwood with a metal insert for the part with the holes.
A wood one could be finished to be smooth or have a pebble grain.
It would just be a question of measure and trim to get it just right. Anyone who could make furniture could do it.

I know this sounds crazy but it could be done by hand. Probably not easy enough by hand to make money on it but just to have a nice looking one to replace a bad one.
It could be

Yeah, I couldn't make one by hand and make money on it.

It isn't a complex part though.

Don't you think that someone would buy a "billet" sports bar pad?

I can vouch for Sharf. I bought a hard top from him. He was reasonable and I got exactly what he said I would.

Scharf IS the man to talk to. He hooked me up with six interior pieces I was needing and at a VERY reasonable price. Definitely give him a call first!
