Is there anyway to lower the shifter in an RT/10 without pulling out the transmission? I saw another post with a link to E-Bay auction 190086602498 that shows a 1997 GTS, and one of the pictures shows a view looking in from the driver's door, and it shows the red shifter similiar to the ones in the McViper's, and it is positioned nice and low in the center console, vs. sticking up in the stock position. Can it be done with hacking up the original shifter too badly???

Thanks, Chris.

Big E: Thanks for the link; I would probably just get the bolts for the $25; how does the shifter handle come off? Does it just unscrew conterclockwise? I do have the factory service manual for reference. Do you have to remove the entire center console and shifter boot to perform this modification? Hopefully it is a pretty easy install, as I hate to disassemble a zillion things just to do a 5 minute job...........

Its been awhile but first I had pull the bezel off. It was kind of a pain (for me) to get off. I scratched my dash when I took it off. :( There are these spring/clips that hold the bezel on. Next remove the shift knob. You need to pull/push the boot down to get a open wrench on the knob to unscrew it counter-clockwise. I found my old shifter & knob and it looks like a 11/16 or 18mm open end for the knob with the 3/4 jam nut below.

Then I took my console out, just four screws. You have to pull up on the e-brake really far to get the console completely off. You may be able to rotate it out of the way too. Then a 3/4 open end wrench to remove the orginal shaft. Reverse the process to put your new shaft in. You may want to use a little Loctite too. It took me about 40-45 minutes the first time.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I sent an e-mail to Rich, and left him a phone message as well, with no response as of yet; does anyone know if he is on vacation, or is still making this part for the Viper? If he is no longer a source, then I will contact SVS and see if I can obtain one through them. No rush, just curious if he is still offering this part. Also, if anyone has a used one for sale, I would be interested in purchasing.........

Thanks, Chris.
