v10enomous you are the man..One can see how a real world 2012 GTR does not match..

the test times which the big mags claim. So we have 11.9 at 118 MPH and 3.5 sec, not 2.9 to 60 MPH as they claim.
But Viper 12.00 sec at 126 MPH..we all know that is a low 11.00 1/4 time with the right hook up with that 126 MPH.

But the GTR at 118 MPH is correct for the 11.90 to low 12.00 at 118 MPH, and weighing in at 3900 plus lbs. As I said in
another post, I drove the 2012 GTR and the car felt unsure, not at all smooth, and sounding like something is broken at full stomp. Hard to have confidance in this car when the maximum is required. The Motorweek guys are spot on about the problems.

A car in my opinion costing 90 K plus, which needs to cool down the trans after some hard starts as not to grenade it, is not cool when one is buying this car for that purpose.

I am glad for the manual T-56 6 speed in my Vette and Viper. One can beat on them all day and no cool down is needed.
Looks like Nissan still has not fixed the launch control situation. The GTR still needs a rest after hard runs..lol

v10enomous I think you posted this vid. It is very ture.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOAXJTTc__w

Note below in the video we have an entry level 2010 C 6
(not Z 06 or ZR1) doing the 1/4 at 116 at MPH..just three MPH less then the 2012 GTR 1/4 . I wonder what the 2012 C 6 will test at with the revised launch and stability control programs?

Awesome post, Arthur

I'm not knocking the Nissan but I just prefer the Viper recipe more so than that of that of the Nissan. When you look at the weight disparity and then the torque difference the Viper doesn't even need to breathe hard. Plus they tested a vert with a much higher drag than say an ACR or base SRT-10 coupe. While the Skyline/GT-R may be a legend so is the the Viper plus it's the axe murdering beast that we've all come to love. Technical stuff aside it's clear that John Davis loves the Viper while he's sort of luke warm about the GT-R as any real car guy would be.

But see you shouldn't be using launch control every pass anyway. This is stated by Nissan themselves that the car is just as fast without it and really shouldn't be used all the time. There have been many morons in the beginning of the cars life in the US that have looked passed this and used launch control every light they stop at, thus the trans exploding and a bunch of internet whiners appeared. That was months ago.

I can't rely on big mags anymore cause the weather always varies. To say that the GT-R and the Skyline are similar is crazy, neither of them are. The Skyline moniker was dropped when the R35 was built as a world car. Third gen Skyline R32-R34's use a single turbo RB26, the R35 has a twin-turbo V6. Big difference, and drifting did not have a huge influence on the car like they said, the Skyline was always road and drag racing like no tomorrow. That car is the Japanese equivalent to the Viper and Vette.

John Davis did mention that the GT-R is 'Viper-jagged and Corvette-smooth'.

I believe that one should use launch control every pass if one wants to...

without any trans problems. Sounds like Nissan is trying to cover up for the wrong trans selected for this car. Why would the 2012 GTR need to be cooled off after a few hard launches?

Not to keep referring back to the Vette, but I have launch control on my 2011 entry level C 6 Vette. Never had any factory warnings or a cool down time period was ever necessitated for the trans after the launch control was used hard.

I am just saying, the GTR seems it would be better off with a manual 6 speed trans. That way one can use the launch control till one is blue in the face, and Nissan would not have to fight for replacing the trans for every second owner.

The 2012 GTR in my opinion will yield as time goes on a good deal of trans issues for Nissan. I would like to see down the line a 70 K on the odometer 2012 GTR when driven as it was meant to be... with the launch control on more often then not.

In fact GM wants us Vette owners to use the launch control as many times as we want..They even have a how to do video on it. See below..Arthur
