Lost out to a '09 DUB 300M with 100K worth of stereo electronics and Lambo doors.

73 Manta Marauader (327) parked beside me. Owner has just started restoration. I noticed that there's not even a glove box. Guy said he buys his clothes when he gets where he's going, LOL. However, he had to ask his friends to carry home the folding chair he won as a Door Prize.

Too many ricers voting is why I didn't get first, and not enough stereo information displayed on my sign board? It was a good show with over 200 cars attending. Had a Mopar club from Wash. travel 500mi. to show.

One of the club members passed away and his handbuilt 29 Ford pickup and trailer won people's choice. Another club member's wife passed away last week and his car won 1st in class.

Nah, it was just one of 2 white 300's there. It had a display sign and had been featured in a magazine. It had mags and Lambo doors. Not being into electronics much I wasn't impressed by it and was quite surprised that it beat me. 'New Age' I guess. No engine work, but probably 100K worth of electronics.

Explaining Viper things to you
Nice job! I did a classic car show yesterday with my dune buggy as the Viper is still getting modded, and a wheelchair won the special interest class.

Moral of story... 2nd is better than having some overweight lady wheel up to you during the show and sell you some tickets for the 50-50 cash draw, me never realizing that the wheelchair was entered as a vehicle, and then getting beat by the wheelchair and loosing the 50-50 drawing.

Ouch! That's gotta hurt.

There was a VERY attractive woman (about 27 years old) that spent an hour studying my sign, display books and reading my magazine articles. I started my Viper for an old friend and she thanked me profusly for allowing her to look over my car. If I wasn't so happy with the 45 year old I'm married to I'd have arranged a private ride for her, LOL.

I did win an insulated 6 pak cooler and some glass cleaner as a door prize as well. The wife won a hand embroidered tablecloth, doilly (?) set for the house as well. We had an exceptional turnout considering that it sprinkled rain until noon.

Next week I'm off to Portland for Driver's Ed. (14hr. drive).

Maybe if you had at least ruffed up your wife a bit, first place might have been within reach.

Ouch! That's gotta hurt.

It's all for charity. Otherwise you might have seen something like:

"This is a FOX News Alert"

"There appears to have been a shooting rampage at a car show in Texas"

"Wait... Hold on..."

"We're getting footage now from our local Dallas affiliate FOX4 as they have Chopper 4 in the air"

"It appears that a purple dune buggy is traveling southbound through a field at an extremely high rate of speed. Getting air at every bump. What's this guy got in that car?"

Later that day at a police news conference...

"We're still looking for him folks. He's bound to run out of beer sometime. We've got undercover officers at beer stores throughout the county. Be safe and vigilant until we catch this animal."

Owner said it was a factory race car that was widened 4" and made street legal by Maclaren. Only a very few were produced. His had a 327/400hp engine, but he said they also came with BB Chevs.

Said that when he purchased it from the US he had to add sidemarker lights and wheels. Car was running about 245s on it and looked like it needed 345s to fill the rear wheel-wells.

It was in rough shape and looked like a home build though. Heavy steel frame in the rear with most of the paint missing. Engine had mixture and choke problems at the show. Seats were 1/2" foam padded and would only hold 1 fat person or 2 skinny people. Owner told me that the car had a lot of problems and he had just started the restoration.

Guy had just bought and registered the car and was having a blast at the show. He probably demonstrated getting in and out of the car about 25 times during the day. His car attracted as much attention as my sc Viper I'd guess.

I would imagine that finding parts for a restoration if he needs them would be like trying to find a needle in a hay stack! :dunno:

pic of 27 year old? Wife informed me that I can hire a model and have her along if I wish my nackers to stay as healthy as they are - no pics.

All the 'glass was in good shape and only needed a paint job. The Lexan bubble was also in really good shape. Car looked like it needed complete cosmetic restoration, mostly paint. Chassis also needs some work as the rear wheels were canted in at the top. Engine needed a tune badly. Another guy and I offered our advice on carburation and upgrades for the HEI ignition. Since he really enjoyed driving the car I don't think it needs too much. Told me it cost him only $40,000 and I think it'll be worth over $100,000 once he gets it finished. I can't remember if he said 40 or 400 built.

Manta was a kit car company that sold cars modeled after McLaren racecars of the period. I feel bad for him if he paid $40K for that and the accompanying delusions.

If that's the situation I imagine he may kill himself as he said these cars were actual race cars "modified by Maclaren" for street use. I'm not much into "imports" or actual factory built racecars, except for Domestics. Import taxes are so high that if I was 'into' imports I'd move to where they made my "dream car" and buy one in that country.

The owner and another guy had quite a long conversation about the car and it's history ... sounded like they knew what they were talking about - I don't. I certainly wouldn't want to be the one to tell HIM that. He was having a great time showing his 'original' car.

This is true - He's be better off with a Bricklin or DeLorean. At least they were kinda 'real'...
