3R Qualifies Seventh, Tenth, Fourteenth and Twenty-Second at Laguna Seca
Monterey, California - 3R-Racing drivers Phil McClure, Tommy Archer, Tim Wiens and Rob Foster qualified seventh, tenth, fourteenth and twenty-second respectively for the final round of the SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge GT series race to be run tomorrow.
Phil McClure, piloting the number 73/Aggregate Industries/3R Corvette, qualified in seventh position with a time of 1:32.274 and a speed of 87 mph to start in the third row for tomorrow's 50-minute race. "The track was pretty slippery. I had a good deal of push in the car. On new tires my hot lap was pretty good, I may have left a couple of tenths out there, but I wanted to make sure I had enough rubber to be competitive tomorrow. It should be a real dog fight; the top 12 guys are really close."
Tommy Archer, who is currently second in the GT driver's standings with just four points separating him from first place Michael Galati, qualified his number 22/c3controls/ Whelen Engineering/3R Viper in tenth place with a time of 1:32.431. "I had a pretty severe push in the car. The back of the Viper is wide and really gets the power down on new tires; the smaller fronts then can't up hold their end. Tenth is a tough place to start, Galati will be girded right behind me in thirteenth, so we need to make sure he stays behind."
Viper teammate Tim Wiens, driving the number 33/1st Interstate Inns/3R Viper, qualified with a time of 1:32.789 good for a fourteenth place starting spot. "I was bringing the car up to temperature then on my fast lap I came up on two slower Audis and that cost me a good bit of time. The car is pushing, that may be attributed to the cooler temperature, but I am not uncomfortable starting there, I plan to move-up."
Running his bright lime green number 71/LTI Contracting/Foster Motorsports/3R-Viper, Rob Foster qualified in twenty-second. After a disappointing first outing with 3R at Road Atlanta three weeks ago, Forster is enjoying his Laguna Seca weekend. "I had a good couple of laps going and when I really hit my rhythm I ran out of track at the exit of turn nine after the Cork Screw that really hurt my qualifying effort. The car is running good, we worked ******* getting the front planted through the open practice and the handling has improved. I am ready to race tomorrow."
To win the driver's championship tomorrow, Tommy Archer will have to finish four places ahead of front runner Michael Galati.
The race will be run tomorrow starting at 1:00 p.m. and televised LIVE on Speed Channel at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
