500hp doesn\'t sound like much to me any more...

I read a lot of the performance mods on this board and it makes me feel like my 500 HP isn't quit enough...or I don't measure up. Maybe I'm getting used to my power that I have so if you have 650 plus...do you feel like you need more? Maybe I'm greedy, but I'm still saving my money to get some more power. I just feel average now.

Solution to this symptom

1. Go rent a Mustang from your local rental agency (I think Avis has them)

2. Find a big old wide freeway and stomp on the gas

3. Now go get in the Viper and repeat #2

You will now feel ok about your 500 horses

Viper owners have a passion for speed, ususally its never enough, mostly you have to fight it down,or else you'll wind up running top fuel one day.
Its all relative to who's faster around town!

Well, I can tell you what NOT to do. Last week Wayne Markowitz finally took me for a ride in his Lethal 750. All I can say is, one ride in that car and you'll be selling one of your kidneys to get that package. It was awesome. The big problem is, now I'm back in my "plain old Viper" and it feels like I'm putting around town in a 3-cylinder geo. Oh well, like Craig said, I can't complain too loudly!

Just checked Chuck's suggestion and...for NYS Vipers...it's available!

Back on topic:

ab: I think you're comparative base is compromising your balance. IMO, most Vipers are likely NOT modified. If you include the 10-25 HP mods (tubes, filters, HF cats and cat backs) I'll wager the VAST majority fall into this none/lite mod category. If you've got 500 HP (even BHP) you're WAY ahead of the game - most certainly NOT average even by Viper standards! (Mind you this is coming from a guy who just put down a deposit on a Roe S/C). Our HP need problem (is it really a problem?) is a human characteristic (see crack *******). HP may be addictive, but it's generally not illegal or immoral (<gulp> I hope

Want a cure for your blues, there ab, go to a dyno event for another car manufacturer and see how excited they get about making 350 to the rear wheels. Its all relative.

We have a new simple heads, exhaust, cam package that will make over 500 to the rear wheels on any gen II Viper. You can feel the difference that 100 rwhp makes, but over time you will get used to anything. I have flown Jet Aircraft for almost 20 years and even they feel slow to me, but ask a new co-pilot or first time passenger..

Your dilema is exactly why I like nitrous over any other mod. An extra 200-300 hp will ALWAYS feel good, but its not there working over your engine all of the time. Kind of like a good steak..I eat lots of steaks, but once a month or so I go out and have a GREAT one. I look forward to it and CAN tell a difference.
