About how much would a 1996 - 1997 GTS with about 20k miles, and such run for at a dealer auction? i know of a 02 that went for around 52, if people have any hard numbers, or examples that would be great, oh... and if you where to get a car from a auction ( have the dealer buy it, then buy it from the dealer for aprox 1,000 more dollers) what would you look for on the car? i would guess dealer auctions would be prettty honest? or not? thanks for any info you can give me.

I personally prefer buying direct from private owners. After a few conversations you can get a good feel for just how honest they are or are not. Worth paying extra to get the full "story" / history on a car. Auction cars are a complete unknown in most cases.

You won't see many Vipers at dealer auctions. I have a friend that goes to dealer auctions and bids on cars and he doesn't see too many Vipers. Picking up a car from a dealer auction is dangerous and not worth the small savings. As mentioned above, you REALLY need to see the car for yourself be for buying and I would guess most Vipers at dealer auctions have a big story to go along with them. There is too much money that needs to exchange hands too fast to ensure your getting a nice car. Plus do you really want to give another person 35+ grand before you have a car in your hands? Most people I know won't do a Viper unless you give them the cash first because they don't want to be stuck with it when you find out it is a POS. If you want an auction price take a look at Ebay... I bet you can pick one up for around 40K. From what I have seen, Ebay can sell cars for pretty close to dealer auctions. Buy from a private owner, a good Viper doesn't belong at a dealer auction.

Prices at dealer auctions are all over the place. There's no science to it at all, especially if the dealer has a "shill" bidding up the price on his behalf.

Dan,

If you are set on a Blue/White 96 or 97 then be ready to pay about what a 01 or 02 is going for.

Those ones hang in a higher price range. I've seen 96/97 B/W with 1,000 up to 11,000 miles priced in the 50k to 59K range. I did see a 97 B/W w/ 36K miles sell for $44,500.00.

Good luck in your search. :D
