I am looking for voices of been there done that. I have ordered the 99 Fan assembly from JonB for my 96 RT/10. I have noted threads on plug differences, wiring issues related to amp draw, gauge and meltdown, as well as maybe a difference fuse being needed. Can anyone who has done this upgrade summarize what I need to expect. JonB mentioned Radio Shack might have an off the shelf replacement plug I could put on the RT to match the new fan. Do I have to worry about the new fan pulling more current than the stock 96 wiring can handle; potentially blowing a fuse or causing the wiring to overheat and short? Any advice is appreciated..

Try doing a search. Many people have done this. Tony just did it recently on his '97 GTS, which in not much, if at all, different.

I've had it done in my '96 and the only problem I had was with the connector backing out. Just make sure that the red security push plug thing is securely seated. Also be sure to watch your temp gague after the install. This will give you a heads up if the fan isn't coming on when it should.

When doing this mod, did the hood need to be removed? Since it is so easy to remove the hood, I could see going this route.

I recently upgraded my fan, other than cutting out 2 mounting studs it was a complete drop in project. The plug on the new fan was the same as my existing plug on my car. I ordered my fan from JonB and he made no mention of different fuses being needed, my fan works just fine. Maybe our fuses are different for some reason. Maybe someone with more knowledge can help.

THE YEAR MATTERS!

Note that tacdoc is putting the 99 fan module in a GEN ONE!

Viper Magazine did a nice tech-note story on this mod and I cannot finger it. {Someone should do a searchable alpha index of past VQ-VM stuff! Like National Geo does! }

The connector is different in G1 vs G2, and either requires a direct splice or a male/female plug swap of some sort. Since I believe that electricity is merely tightly-condensed smoke particles traveling inside a pretty vinyl sheath, I was not much help !
