My 96 RT/10 has 7,000 miles and has been babied. No track time, very limited burn outs, etc...

I can hear a growling noise at idle, which goes away when I depress the clutch...I was thinking release bearing, but if memory serves a bad release bearing usually acts the opposite way, it howls/growls when the clutch is depressed (bearing is actually turning) and goes quiet when you release the clutch cuz the bearing is not turning any more...

Oh yah, the noise sounds like its coming from under and forward of the shifter...

Has anyone experienced this? Is there any chance this is normal (I am hoping here...)
Funny thing is, for the first time I drove to work with the hard top on, and windows in, and only under these conditions is the noise noticable...Even without the windows in, there is too much noise from exhaust to detect this growling...

thanks in advance

That would be the '89 Mustang GT option. I dont know about the viper but it was a problem with the Pilot bearing on the mustang.

Mike, do you know if the Dealer will willingly give me the TSB info, and if it calls for repair do they have an obligation to repair for free? My car is still under the 7/75K mile warranty.

thanks

N.G.R. was ofetn undetected by ******* Viper owners, and your "first time" complaint would indicate that otherwise normal clutch noises have just now been noticed.

GTS owners in 1996 had virtually ALL owned an RT/10, and the closed cockpit and greenhouse echoes conspired to make this a major complaint. [ Remember the Turbo-Encapsulator that Dodge Mad-Scientists invented to fix it ?!?! ]

As a precaution, and to ease your mind, I would look for signs of a slave cylindeer leak from the bell housing...and bleed the clutch completely. And then Fergetaboutit..........
