Yes, I think the only difference was in 98 and up they had a different polishing process to make the aluminum more of a "polished look" and they were welded different or not welded at all to make them stronger.

Gerald, thanks for your response. I want to make sure the rims will fit the 97 GTS I'm about to purchase. I also enjoyed your Viper story the other day. It is a small world.

Good to hear from you Kurt I think I have it narrowed to a 97 GTS w/3K miles on it and a 99 GTS silver w/10K miles on it. I'll only buy the silver if I can find out where to get black stripes put on it. There's a silver w/ black stripes on ebay that I got the idea from. The 97 doesn't have the polished rims so but a local dealer will swap out the 98 rims for me pretty cheap. Of course I still have to inspect both cars this weekend.

Big difference.

All '98 5 spokes are FORGED Aluminum.

I believe most '97 5 spokes are CAST Aluminum.

The forged are much more desirable, due to strength and mirror like finish. Search the website for more info., as this has been discussed in great deal in previous posts....

Good Luck.

P.S. - Yes, '98 rims will fit on '97 no problem....

Luis,

Viper's have never had chromed wheels. I would think Jon B. at the parts rack would do a trade plus some $$ for the newer wheels.

Jonathan,

Good luck with the car. I'm assuming it's blue/white??

Also, my 97 has the forged wheels (late 97 build). Let me know if I can help....Kurt

Luis,
The wheel you are referring to is a polished forged aluminum wheel that is 18" in diameter and is stock on all 1999 to 2002 Vipers. Wheel B is stock on ACR Vipers. Stock Viper wheels are not chromed on any model year. The original post above was referring to the previous stock five spoke design that is a 17" wheel that the polished finish was upgraded on the '98 model year. This stock wheel was first available in '96 when the GTS model was introduced and was cast aluminum. I believe that beginning in '97 you could get them in polished forged as an option. Jon B., please correct me if I'm wrong. As stated above Jon B. at PartsRack will exchange your wheels plus $s for upgraded stock or after market wheels. I traded my stock '98 17" wheels plus $s for the '01 18" stock wheels presently on my car. Very happy with the deal and service Jon B. provided.

Cool. Thanks..

When I had my '94 S/C viper, I put a pair of '98 5 spokes on it also and they fit perfect. Just F.Y.I.
