When I first bought my '96 GTS last fall it had a problem with the alarm system going off while just sitting there in a parking lot.

I took the car to Schaumburg Dodge, as they were the closest dealer. They said they replaced the under hood sensor and charged me $362. I asked about warrantee coverage but they said it was not covered. OK I thought, at least it's fixed. When I went to pick it up I asked for the old part, but was told that it had been thrown away... Oh yea, and the odometer had an extra 22 miles on it...

This spring the problem resurfaced. Needless to say I decided to try another dealer. Sunnyside Motors in McHenry had been recommended on this board so I decided to give them a try. Their Viper tech Gary took one look under the hood and assured me that I still had the original sensor. They ordered the part and completed the repair under the same warrantee. Total cost, the $50 deductible, and no additional miles on the car!

The service manager at Sunnyside can be a real buthead (can I say that Tony?) but their tech is excellent and the owner of the dealership is also a viper owner. I also had Gary fix an oil leak at the same time and I was very pleased when I got an oil change and a coolant change along with the repair. This was also all under my warrantee and at no charge! I would recommend them to anyone...

Bob, you should have talked to me first. I could have saved you the headache (and about $312). I wouldn't take anything to Schaumburg Dodge for repairs.

Call me paranoid, but one time I took my car in for new tires. I left a GPS device turned on in the back of the car.

I downloaded it afterwards and found the only mileage had been about 6 miles by my office manager taking it there and back.

Believe it or not she went the speedlimit the whole time.

The GPS device I have will record what direction they were going, where they were, when they were there, and how fast they were going.

It also will print out a map of the route they took.

Bob, yikes, What's up with Schaumburg Dodge? You're like the nth person to give it a bad name. Maybe I should start rethinking where I bring MY car. I think I told you when my drivers side door window motor went out I took it to them only to get a $1000 estimate. I laughed and ordered it from partsrack and did it myself. I think they treat me extra nice since I rent my Viper. They may be seeing $ signs as it may see a lot of service. Little do they know, I'll be doing all of the servicing on the car from now on. Brakes, oil, clutch, etc. Took me 2 hours to change the window motor but I learned how to do it. It was fun too. I would suggest EVERY Viper owner do the "routine" stuff. As far as the 22 miles. I bet they had no idea how to fix it and drove it to the nearest installation place to see if they could fix it. I watch my miles too. See ya.
