This guy with a turbo honda prelude challenged me to a race. If you want to read the whole story, then click here. He said he makes a little less than 400 at the wheels. Anyway I told the guy I would go two steps further. I would run him all motor, and we would go from a roll at the speed of his choice. It has been four days since I accepted his challenge. Every day he hasn't been able to make it for one reason or another. If this race ever happens I will post a video of the results. I am also going to take my z06 and my little turbo four ****** to see how he stacks up against them as well. I will keep you posted.

All I have to say use the juice.

F him show him what a viper stands for.

Tell him he can use whatever he wants. Also have someone take a vid so this way you have something that will always make you laugh.

vd..

fair and street racing are 2 totally different things

Don't take it easy on anyone you race! Then, if you only beat him by 5 car lengths, you'll get the "the prelude barely lost to a Viper" etc.

Make sure the spray is ready and abuse him, make him feel bad, and make sure everyone knows who's BOSS!! :headbang:

Use the juice. I raced a turbo civic about 2 months ago. Asian guy (nothing racial implied...just low driver weight is an advantage you need to take into account) sees me at the gas station fueling up on my way home from VCA meeting on a Saturday night. He had about 450 RWHP and geared to run quarter mile. Those cars don't weigh very much and his driver weight was about half of mine(about 120 lb. less). Their power to weight ratio is very competitive. I gave him the advantage of rolling from 50 mph to get his turbo spooled up and only beat him by about 3 car lenghts to 120 mph. We ran twice with the same results. Above 120 mph I would have continued to walk away, however, those cars are quick in their setup power band. Don't under estimate them when running on their preferred terms. :smirk:

Yeah, I agree.
He could very well be faster than you if he is set up for street racing.
I wouldn't take him lightly. He may not be able to go 190mph and his car may handle like a loaf of bread but he could still be dangerous in a street race or even on a real 1/4 mile track.
Some ricers are on the verge of blowing up and they make lots of power.

Thanks for the advice guys. It looks like this race may not take place. There have been a bunch of excuses from his side. Now he is waiting on some tires and an MSD ignition. Unfortunately I will be pulling my car apart in about a week to get it ready to send off to get "worked on". :D

He says he wants to get everything just right and I can understand that but if you challenge someone you should be ready to follow through with it right then. Oh well, I'm sure he'll never race me when I get the car back.

I would not care if he was driving a Chevy Tahoe.
If he wants it give him such a whiping he won't bother you again. If you take him from the line it should be all over in the first 2 seconds

KWIK96,
What kind of times do you think some of these little over boosted ricers will run in 1/4 mile?

"There is no replacement for displacement" WRONG!

there are 3 or 4 dsm's around here that will run 10s or better. I went to run some of the slower ones the other night and they certainly didnt take it easy on me running race gans and spraying and then on top of that we were running from stops. I beat one and ran door to door with the other. The point is he will not be setup to take it easy on you so if you guys do run don't take it easy on him.

"no replacement for displacement" is a cute catchy phrase.

I know what you mean by it but it really isn't true.
Even back in the 60s we used to say.
"The only thing that will beat cubic inches is cubic money".

That was true back then.
Now, the things that used to cost all that money are no longer expensive or out of the ordinary.

Twin cam, multi valve, supercharger or turbo, cam timing that changes, very high rpm, all wheel drive.

Come up against some of that stuff in a V8 half the size of the Viper and you will see what I mean.
And these are not MODS. The new cars come with that stuff.
So that's the replacement for displacement.
It's called technology.

A Viper with a big responsive V10 is fun to drive. Lots of torque, cool sounds and it's fast.
Just don't get the idea that the young kid with the boosted nitrous ricer, who pulls up next to you is going to be a pushover in a street race.

There are quite a few low buck little cars out there that will make a smug Viper owner look foolish.

Would I rather have one of those?
No, of course not.

Would the hopped up ricer last very long?
No.

Would the ricer handle or have a top speed near mine?
No, No, No.
