That is a steal... I continue to struggle with what I want to do... keep the Gen 1 and try to modify with Gen 2 doors (cost upfront and potential for a fail causes me hesitation) or sell the Gen 1 and my Shelby and buy a silver 1998 or 1999 Gen 2.

Why do I find this decision so difficulty?

Hey Lance!!!
I loved my 1996 RT and was sad to see it go. I found the best thing was to do was to have both. :D :D :D

Really, best bet is to sell yours for whatever you can and get the Gen II. If later you can have both, do it. I will never be without a Gen II.......................Never. :drive::burnout:

Steal? I had to look twice at the ad to make sure it wasn't $29K. :) Nice car with low miles, maybe, but a steal? :dunno:

Low mile gen 1s are getting harder and harder to find (and I look..). This car looks like a nice one...?? Who's to say without looking at it myself? I doubt it's a steal but with a little price drop and quick transaction?..... It might be in my garage if the was closer. Shipping fees bust the deal for me but I suspect someone will have a nice ride soon...(if they like the gen 1 feel..).

See, I disagree with most. At $22K you gave your car away, like giving the new owner $5K cash with the keys. :(

Top dollar is $32-$35K with as little miles as the 94 has. Literally 650 miles per year!!!!!!!!!!!!

curious as to why the gen II owners are saying to sell the gen 1 and get a gen 2 but the gen 2 owners say they will not get rid of a gen 2.

I am not an owner but more than likely I will get a gen 1 as my first viper. I have been on here a couple of years trying to learn about my dream car and for me the gen 1 is what I fell in love with. I do know they don't have the features the gen 2 does. but would a gen 2 owner feel the same about trading a gen 2 for a gen 3 or 4? as in, they would keep the gen 2 instead of gettig a gen 3 or 4?

sorry for rambling, still trying to learn and would love to hear opinions.

Did I ever tell you about the WORST VIPER I ever had, of 16 ? IT WAS FANTASTIC !!!

When I got my 1st Gen 2, I kept my 1st Gen 1, but it languished. So I sold it, bittersweet parting.

When I got my Gen 3 03 SRT, I could not bear to part with my GTS. I still have it. I sold the '03 a few weeks later, a bit disappointed in the car. And I bought a Gen 1 again to have a vert!

When the SRT-Coupe came out, I was delighted, and had to sell the Gen 1 to afford it. Not Missed.

When Gen 4 ACR came out, I had to sell the 06 Coupe to afford it. Was bittersweet. NOT MISSED.

So I bought ANOTHER Gen 1, just because they are a great car, and a great value (and a vert!)

Bottom Line: You cant go wrong with a VIPER.

Gen 1 cars are very raw, unrefined cars (almost kit cars).. That mostly says it. The gen 2 is a beast but not quite to the extent you'll find in an old RT/10. Consider, the gen 1 cars don't have windows or a particularly good top. When you purchase remember this car it will be loud, you may notice some rattles (particularly with the top on) and it will leak in the rain. Think about the convertables of the 60s/70s and the cobras from way back as you consider gen 1. It's an awsome car but a true throw-back.

Don't get me wrong.. Those are some of the basic facts about early vipers (and some of the reasons I love mine..). Gen 2 guys know they own a more refined ride that is quieter and more powerful. Also, the gen 2 cars are more readily modified for even more power!

I'd also venture to say; now that early vipers have become so inexpensive, there are some who may not see the viper bling in a gen 1.... Cool as it is, anybody can buy a 20k car.

"it was tagged by a Jeep which resulted in a carfax but was repaired as good as new." I'd find out what is on the carfax, the wreck or salvage title?

Full disclosure: a few years ago it was tagged by a Jeep which resulted in a carfax but was repaired as good as new and is not a salvage title.
There you go, I added the last part but the VIN was already listed and open for anyone to research anyway.

Thanks to those who have had positive comments. It really is a terrific Viper and lotsa fun. I've gotten a whole new appreciation for GenI Vipers since driving this one.

I would love to have all the upgrades of the GEN III and IV in my GEN II, but I don't want the straighter lines of them. I prefer the body lines of the GEN II. I would not sell or trade my GEN II for a GEN III or IV. No way, never, ain't gonna happen. ;)

Sorry, wasn't trying to be negative but in the spirit of 'full disclosure' where was it hit and what had to be repaired or replaced? Thanks

I agree with Ken, I love my Gen II and would not trade for a Gen III or IV, even though they are more refined and closer to an everyday worthy car...love the flowing lines.

As far as Gen I, I see the very early models as more "collector" cars, if you can get a really low mileage 93...not sure if even 92's are around (didn't they start with a few '92's?), you basically put it in the garage and drive occassionally on sunny !days (funny, that's kind of what I do).:crazy2:

As to pricing I still feel, that while the market continues to be soft, a good low mileage car regardless of year should bring okay money...just a far cry from maybe three years ago.
