"Saleen says its Series IV TwinScrew supercharger is a more compact and free-flowing design than its previous superchargers."

Sounds familiar....the AutoRotor, that many other Mustangs are using. The Mustangs use the Kenny Bell and the Vipers use Roe S/C( like the one that is on my car).

$70,000 for low 12's in the quarter and 4.5 to 60 and a pig that still won't handle????? Yeah, that sounds like a great deal.

I'll believe a Saleen HP rating of 500 when I see one dyno 430RWHP or better. Saleen has a reputation for being pretty optimistic on their HP ratings. Poor performance is always written off as 'traction limited'... A lot of the 495HP S351's dyno'd at only about 380RWHP.

More monikers for the Mustang crowd.

"I own a S."
"I own a 281."
"I own a Extreme."
"I own a E."

Coupe, Cobra, Snake, Saleen, GT, the list goes on and on. Mustang owners call their cars anything but "a Mustang."

I also agree that $65-70 for an ugly Mustang is a little much, as in, $40k too much. I wouldn't pay more than $30k for a jazzed up Mustang and that is being generous.

I still think the new body style is ugly and will get old quickly.

I think the new Mustang looks great. I also thought the previous gen Mustang looked good. Ford does much better in the style dept. than those bozos at GM.

What I don't understand is how Saleen can charge that much money. Every Mustang owner I know got 500 HP with a $5 pulley and computer chip.

I love the new Mustang body style, but not with the Saleen stuff on it. The coming Mustang Cobra is suppossed to be pretty hot.

For what they cost, the Mustang is a good bargain. I bought a Mustang Cobra for my son in 1999, and 75,000 miles later, have had no problems. Its no superlative of performance, just a good middle class "sporty" car.

I agree with you. I never saw the value in those cars.

Agreed. Ford successfully pulled off the retro redesign with their standard Mustangs, but yucked it up with the Saleen. That thing is hideous.

That car's biggest enemy is the 2004 SVT Cobra which can be tweaked to have 600HP+ for under $40K (including the car). :2tu:

I actually like the styling of the new Mustang, but in 2 years Ford (Shelby) will have their own factory-warrantied, 500HP Mustang for somewhere around $40K, and this pricey Saleen will be worth less than that when the new car is released.

Plus even though Saleen is the first with a big splash about their 500HP new Stang you just know that two or three of the other tuner/vendors will have a sub-$5000 bolt-on kit in a few months that makes 500HP+.
