Went out for a drive today in my 2008 and after driving about 70 miles the red airbag light turned on in the lower left hand corner of the instrument cluster. Car kept driving fine and after returning home and letting the car sit for about about 20 minutes I turned the car back on and the airbag light did not return.

Anyone else have this happen? Also, I have a driving school in about 3 days and do not have time to bring it into the dealer. I have 6 point harnesses for both driver and instructor. Am I safe going to the track with this potential issue lurking in the background (even assuming there is an airbag fault of some kind)?

Thanks for your input.

My uneducated guess is that if the light goes on then the airbag is inoperable and will not deploy. If you have 6 points I think the airbag is a non issue if it does NOT deploy. My worry would be that accidental deployment at the wrong time could severely distract you and send you off track. I think I would skip the track day unless one of the above gentlemen can assure you that the light is not telling you that you will not suffer accidental deployment.

The 08' cars have a sensor and connector mounted to the seat rails that tells the airbag how close you are to the wheel and can adjust the deployment force. If the seats were taken out for the harness install or this was "bumped" causing the reading to be off this may cause the light to illuminate intermittently. I would check this out first, plus if there is a seat lowering kit added for the rest of you they do not fit perfectly and the module (gateway) has to be relocated and the bracket "chiseled off, if not the seat will not move properly fore and aft which may or not be and issue.

Make sure though that this sensor is active though or it will "default" to the weakest setting and not deploy properly for you. If this system is tampered with and there is an accident the manufacturer and your insurance company may leave you high and dry so be aware of this if working on them yourself or having another person do it.
