Condition: Arming the car with the remote. Alarm goes off ONLY when outside on the street or in a parking lot (usually 45 minutes later). This does NOT happen when it is in my garage though...weird eh?

I have developed a hate for alarm systems. Had an Alpine 8040 on the vette and then an 8046; just a pack of problems. Even had it yanked out. Now the same bloody thing with the Viper. Sunday afternoon on the strip I was having beers with the ladies and it takes off for no reason. I was looking at it when it went off. Nobody even near the car. I had to get up and go turn it off. Everybody stares; some people even said I did it on purpose to attract attention. Even they only knew how stupid I felt...

Shop manual says there are 4 contacts; doors, hood and trunk. Pretty sketchy at best as far as fixes. Anybody got a theory on this?

1) sometimes the hood sensor has to be readjusted.

2) if it happens in the same location, could be interference which you cannot do anything about.

I had the door solenoid go bad on my GTS. Caused the door to sometimes not unlock right and I would get occasional alarms going off for no reason when parked at work. Replacing the door solenoid fixed both problems for me. The Viper tech was able to plug something in and monitor the sensors and figure out which one was flaky.

Not sure why you would have problems only when parked outside. Perhaps more ground vibrations from trucks etc?

that's what I thought Ken. I thought there was a impact sensor on the car, but couldn't find it anywhere in the book.

Ulysses, it was two different spots.

Hood Switch has been the most common Culprit!
Unplug the switch and remove it from its bracket. Then unlock its collar and move it down the switch 1/2 inch, re-install. See if that fixes the problem?
