Finally got my '69 Charger R/T SE sold and picked up my Viper last night. I hadn't driven a stick in 16 years and even then only once or twice so I'm still getting used to it but what a bad-ass car!

Thanks to all on this site for answering newbie questions and providing very useful information.

Here's a photo - I'll post better ones later.

Thanks for all the comments. I definitely had to pick it up before this weekend so I'd have an extra day to drive it.

BTW: I'm in Las Vegas.

Great choice in colors, the always stealthy Black.
Ahh,one of the classiest color combinations in Viperdom. Not to bash on Hockey, but black can attract a lot of attention, especially with a wide body and stripes, not to mention exhaust if you get it. Take care of her, she'll take care of you. Enjoy!

I've already got a radar detector (use it in my Dakota R/T) so I just need to remember to bring it in the Viper. It's incredibly easy to speed in this car - it got up to 100 with no problem - easier than my '69 Charger did it and that car's 440 was built.

The only mod the car has is the smooth tubes. I'm planning on getting used to driving it as is first before I start modding. Not to mention that the bank account is drained anyway.

Congrads and welcome...BLACK/SILVER combo is the best!

let the mods begin

Congrats from another "Newbie" of 3 months. As a newbie this would be my top ten tips:
1) Respect the POWER of the BEAST!
2) Make this your home page as every time you turn on your computer, it will automatically end up here anyhow. Bookmark the search page here, PartsRack, and Tators Dodge for starters.
3) When parking - allow yourself an extra 2 feet. You'll be amazed at how close you actually cut it.
4) That little voice in your head that asks "Am I going to scrape?" will always be right.
5) The worst sound in the world follows not listening to # 3 or 4 above.
6) You will finally understand the meaning of the phrase "Viper Tax".
7) Allow yourself an extra 1/2 hour when getting gas or going to the store to talk to the people that want to check out your Viper.
8) There is no such thing as a single mod. Once you start, it's impossible to stop.
9) You will find reasons to go out to the gargage to look at your prized possession. You will also happy to run errands or go to the store as there is nothing finer than a ride in your own Viper - for any reason!
10) Respect the POWER of the BEAST!

Congrats!

Luckily I've been lurking around this site for the last couple of months and was already aware of alot of those top ten tips. I've only gotten gas once (it's only been in my possession since yesterday evening) and it was uneventful.

The one thing that amazes me is how much heat this car lets off when you park it in the garage. It heats the garage up more than my '69 Charger R/T SE with a built 440 did.

Congrats and welcome to the club! Of course the Blue w/White striped cars are the fastest! ;)

Someone told me that the yellow ones are fastest, but I have a feeling I may discover that the black w/silver Vipers are the fastest.

Feather the throttle in the turn, and dont wrap it around a pole.

In a turn, if the back end starts to slide out, and you let off the throttle suddenly, the weight will transfer forward, and you will spin it around as the rears get light. Modulate the throttle, don't get jiggy wid it.

Your door hinges are aluminum, and the doors may sag. Lube them by opening the doors all the way, and come at them from the front of the car, there're easier to get to that way.

Tighten your power steering cap, it tends to burp onto he headers, torching the car. Even better, switch to Red Line PS fluid, higher flash point.

Look under your hood at the hinge mounts. This is where you put your hands to close the hood, and avoid cracks. Just inboard of the hood speakers, as seen from the top.

Don't lean on the center console, it cracks, and costs a fortune to replace.

Turn your outside mirrors far out enough as to minimize the overlap with the inside mirror. This will reduce your blind spot.

Man Vic,
When I get mine, you are going to have to PROMISE to tell me all of this...so much stuff to learn....thank God for the cut-paste function to add this to my growing list of "Stuff to remember for the Viper"

Thanks for all the pointers. I'm getting more comfortable driving the car, but I want to make sure that I don't get a false sense of security.

BTW: here's a shot of the car today after I cleaned it up

Your Viper certainly does look sharp. Congratulations. Yet another lucky guy joins the esteemed ranks of Viper owner. *smile*

Thanks...I'm definitely more comfortable with the car - shifts are getting quicker, more willing to floor it, etc.

As weird as it sounds this car is the first one I've ever owned that is a stick.
