Any 1/4 mile times for pre/post gear changes?

I am considering changing rear gear to 3:54's and was wondering if anyone has proven any gains with the SRT? What kind of driveability is there with steeper gears(more wheelspin, etc.), as I would think that it would be a bonified 6 speed with 3:45's or steeper. I have reviewed some posts that showed "better thrust", but wonder if it translates to actual quicker 1/4 miles?
any opinions are great!

Allen. When I changed to 3:54's in my 96 GTS, I was able to post a 11.9 quarter. The best with stock gears was an 12.1. Both runs at Pomona, but months apart.
Many others claim no improvement, due to more wheel spin at launch, so the jury is still out.
I just installed 3:55 in my SRT. Will post results in a seperate post.
Most report better drivability, and as you said, the 6th gear becomes usable.
I also found the 3:54's vastly superior for running open road racing, as you can lope along easily in 6th instead of winding out 5th at 165 mph.

thanks Paul,
When I went to 3:73's from 3:23 in my LS1, I only saw a tenth improvement in the 1/4 but improved "fun factor". sounds like the SRT will yield similar results.

Curious to know what your mph improvement was in the quarter after your gear change?

Closing the ratio between gears sure has a feel like nothing else. There sure is a lot of info on this upgrade, but not to many have done it. I'm sure it's a great upgrade. The cost is a bit more than the GTS car, but not bad. Doe's any one out there know at what rpm the SRT crosses the 1/4 mile line? I would say the ideal rpm to cross at would be around 5900-6000 not 6200, as the motor would be falling off badly. If the car is modded this will change this, as the car may gain MPH sooner. I really would like to hear some rpm numbers on the stock SRT. Eighth mile numbers would be nice to know. Tom Welch is very sharp on gear changes when running a modded car. j

I know that with the 3.07's currently you cross the traps after having JUST shifted to fourth. If you try trapping in third gear you will hit the engine shut-off switch (limiter) at 6,000 (or 6,250) RPM's before you cross the line. So a 3.45, 3.54, or 3.55 MUST be an improvement over the stock gears. Now to come up with the coin... ;)
