OK I know there's a tire, wheels section, but man it's pretty dated on activity, so sorry for posting here, but hoping for a little more visibility. Anyone know of a good road race, either track/DOT, tire in 19" sizes? Or are all the good ones in 18"? Thnx.

I have set of acrx wheels(take offs),I think michelin slicks on the 18,19 are ultimately the best
, For autocrossing, I just got a set of hoosiers A6's and OZ's from tire rack. I don't think there is a better combination for autocrossing, especially with the 1 inch wider front rim(315's fit nice). Also something to think about, a lot of people run the A6's autocross tire road
racing and not the R6's. You might want to research that as an option.

The Michelin slicks are ridiculous. I've been told about 5-6sec. a lap faster than an R6.

Wow! that would explain why some people are running the A'6s On the road course Instead of the R6's They're trying to keep up with the michelins. I purchased my ACRX wheels and michelins used, I bought my hoisers new. they were not cheap. how much more could michelin cost?

The A6's have more grip than the R6's but only for a couple laps. They are an AutoX tire that will heat up very quickly which is what you need for AutoX. They will not last a full session @ a roadcourse without getting greasy.

The A-6 is a common and good choice for two reasons:

1) a "Qualifier" tire, where you need stickier-grippier tire for 2-3 laps, regardless of track temps.

2) a COOL-COLD weather tire, that performs better, and has decent endurance on colder pavement, ie below ~~70-f

Someone told me the Michelin's for the ACR-X are $2,500 a set.:crazy2:
Perhaps for us mere mortals.

$2020 at the track at Viper Cup events which includes mounting, balancing, and engineering support according to NARRA's website.

Hoosier R100's about the same cost. Only available in 18's in Viper sizes though.

The Hoosier A6 will work great at the track after about 30 heat cycles at the auto crosses. I have run Hoosiers for years (9-12 sets a summer) and have always used the A compound at the track after a couple Solo events. I have never had them get "greasy" during a 20-30 minute session and consider myself a very aggressive driver. They will last 2+ weekends at the track if you do this. The Hoosier does need a fair amount of camber though to work and last. If you want the longer lasting R6 tire though it will remain a more constant performer albeit with less grip overall.

If you are contemplating using a full race slick your car will have to be properly set up or you will just ruin them. The X has much stiffer springs AND shocks to take advantage of them. You will also have to maintain bearings, ball joints and bushings more often because of the much greater loads they will see as on the ACRX. You will also want to do the "shim kit" for the control arms as the factory eccentrics will move under the higher strain the Michelin slicks generate. If they slip during an event you can very quickly ruin a $2000 set of tires.

MJ, Thats a great tip for people who both AutoX and RoadCourseTrack. Especially if your competative in AutoX and cycle through tires quickly.

With the uber amount of corvettes competativly autocrossing and throwing out heat cycled sets of A6's those guys should should recycle and make sure those sets get to budjet track go'ers. My brother has a Z06 and is just getting into trackdays. I'll have to mention this to him.
