Hey guys, I'm looking to upgrade my rear diff and want to go with a different ratio. However, I'm looking for something between stock and the 3.33. Does anyone make a 3.18 or maybe a 3.23?
Ha ha ha, yeah I'm definatley not looking for more "snap". lol. I'm looking at doing a mile event, either the Texas Mile or Maxton. I'm going to be doing the 5th and 6th gear conversion this winter and I think (optimistically ) that a 3.33 rear end with the .63 6th gear will be too short.
I'd think the 3.07s would be near optimal if you could find a 26" tire to run. If you're running an 18" rear wheel the 335/30/18 is just under 26 inches and would give you an equivalent 3.20 rear gear.

Question: Some intuition would tell me on the mile runs, the top end charge is where gains are made and not necessary the first few gears. Up over 200 mph the drag would be a limiting factor and wider tires might be a more limiting factor than help. Have any of the serious racers or shops changed out their wide tire cars for a narrower tire but kept the same setup? Just the wandering thoughts of a mildly educated geek.
I totally agree with what Frog said. At the suggestion of DP Viper, I did my 05, and later my 08. Really just makes the car better. Shifting is more where the seat of your pants tells you it should be, and, you can actually use 5th and 6th. Nevermind the additional kick in the pants when you step on the gas!You would probably better off going with a different diameter wheel/tire combo rather than spending the money on gears. I can say that I had a 3.55 rear end in my 2005 and it was simply the best upgrade I ever spent money on for the Viper. Made the Gen III much easier to drive around town and was a lot snappier from 60 to 130 or so.

Yep, see that now.I think you missed the fact that he has 1000+ RWHP. Moving the powerband with gears is great for stock or near stock power cars, but no real point with higher horsepower cars.
He's trying to find a low numerical gear because he'll literally run out of gear in the standing mile competition around 230 MPH with 3.55s and is hopeful to exceed that.
I figured with the 26.8 inch R6 tires, 3.33 rear end, and .62 6th gear at 6000rpm that's good for 232mph. Again, I may be waaaaay over optimistic here but I just don;t want to run out of gear. Then again, maybe I'll never get out of 5th. ha ha ha ha
