Any tips on swapping a Gen3 hood with a Gen4?

My ebay find of a Gen4 hood just arrived and I was going to see how it bolted on tonight, with the help of a buddy. Any tips? Is it just a bolt-off / bolt-on / align-it kind of deal?

I understand that I'll have to deal with grills and a pad at a later point, plus possibly bumpers / gaskets (?)

Simply place the studs in the holes on the hinges, align, then tighten the stud bolts. They both have the same hing stud configuration and are identical. The only difference between the two is the grounding strap configuration for the hood pads are different but you won't have to worry about that just yet. You will need the rear and side seals and scoop (deflector). The airbox seal is an added bonus but really has no function due to the difference in the Gen. III and IV airboxes.

Easy sway but for safety run some blue painters tape along the edge of the hood and folded over the edge of the fenders. Bolt it loosely first. Don't install the latch until the hood sits centered by itself. Mine took some tweeking and opening and closing a bunch of times. Then install the latch and you can do some final side to side tweeking with the latch adjustment.

I'd also suggest you mark the outline of the hood brackets on your "old" Gen III hood before removal. It will make re-installing it much easier. I use a pencil but you may want to use a fine black sharpie depening on the color of your car.
