Got an '01 GTS and was wondering if anyone has ever put sound deadening in or on the doors. And if yes, where? There is the clear sheet between the panel and the door that would seem to make that difficult to do unless you tossed it.

And before someone offers me the search feature, BEEN THERE.

I have seen competition cars that don't use it. You don't really need it. Do you really want to add more weight to a heavy door.

We're only talking about 1 to 2 pounds for a few square feet of the 0.35 pound per sq ft stuff.

Seems like it would help with rattles.

How about just taking the clear plastic off? Maybe that is what is vibrating? :dunno:

I knew you'd come back with something funny!
Haven't had my panels off(yet) but if the clear plastic is like all other one's, it is just stuck on with dum-dum. You can peel it off and put it back on again no problem. I do plan on doing my interior with either the Dynamat or ThermoTec makes a sound deadener also that is much less $$ than the Dynamat. Just did my Jeep with the ThermoTec stuff and actually like it better. Ordered it thru Summit.

My Pantera is naturally loud. Exhaust is VERY short, plus I have headers, and the firewall insulation was NOT exactly high tech.

I had put heat shield throughout when we had the interior apart. But when the Dynamat went in... whoa. We put in under the headliner and at the firewall, but the doors made the biggest difference. Hard to explain in an email, but my former 'tink' sound of a kind of 'tinny' door (though of typically Italian solid coachbuilding) went THWACK with a vault-like shut.

The car is WAY WAY more quiet and I guess just more 'solid' feeling. I imagine the Viper would respond similarly. Yes, it's a trifle heavy; we're talking minimal as to the offsetting gain UNLESS you're in 'total weight reduction' mode.

Ebay resellers offer a 'premium' pack of 9 square feet I believe, and you want the bigger pack because shipping is a bit. (It's an asphalt based product, so think of it as a stack of linoleum as far as weight). Very easy to cut and form to odd shapes.

I don't know about Thermo-Tec, but presumably similar. Can probably have others chime in with experience or comparisons there.

Have fun!

It would definitely help with rattles. But if you find the source of the rattle you wouldn't need dynamat. It's like covering up the symptom but not finding the cure.

The cars I've seen with Dynamat throughout actually added over 50lbs of the stuff. But the car was dead quiet and the bass response was tighter than Pamela Anderson's bra.

Also check around to see which Dynamat has a long life. They've had issues in the past where over time they would break up and crumble. There's lots of other brands out there Dynamat is just one of the brands and not necessarily the best.

Dynamat Extreme is the best one I have used. Adding it to the doors in my 05 have made a difference. I did my entire 69 Camaro in it and the results were great.

In the Viper you just remove the clear sheet carefully and then remember to put it back on.

I plan on installing sound deadener on my doors and on the roof of my car. I was thinking of installing it on the back of the door panels and on the inner door...instead of the door skin itself.

IMHO the weight added is really insignificant. 50lbs added here-or-there won't make any difference to the speed of the car...not that anyone could actually tell anyway.

Easiest way to make your car faster is simply kick the passanger out. :rolaugh:

The ThermoTec I used came 3'x5'(15sqf) weighed 7lbs in it's box.

Yeah, I got a variety of leads when I searched everything. Have a portfolio of bookmarks for different brands.

It seems like the sound deadening + heat shield stuff all weighs in at about 1/2 pound per sq ft.

But like others have said, I'll add hp to compensate if I feel slower.

Well, I did it. Real PITA to do a good job, keeping overlap and weight to a minimum. It adds 26 oz to the weight of each door, or about a pound and a half. Stereo sounds much better. No rattles in door anymore.
