Jim,

Don't know him. He's only been registered on Ebay since 1-10-05, no feedback and he starts with a $2k+ item? Could be legit but smells fishy to me. The auction has four days left. Tell him you have a friend/relative in DC that you want to come and take a look at them before the auction ends. Tell him that if they check out, you will bid strongly. If he is legit, he shouldn't hesitate with that offer. If he doesn't agree, IMHO, it's a scam.

I'd be very wary of buying wheels off someone with no feedback, maybe the usual scam or could be actually genuine. I seem to take these auctions as a scam
espicially with weird emails, if the guy has the wheels ask him to take a picture with a odd item like a toothbrush next to them, like Bobs advice if he's keen to sell he should go out of the way to help the sale

I personally wouldn't buy off a non-feedback seller whom I didnt know.

i emailed a few people that bid on these already, the guys a crook. I emailed him asked him what it would cost to buy them now, he told me 1800 shipped, i said i live close to dc so i would bring him the cash, he then tells me oh im in the uk, send the money here and my son will ship them out from new york. I emailed another bidder, he got the response saying to wire him the money in the uk that he wouldnt accept paypal or anything, only wire. I was very leary of a 0 feedback person, was glad it said dc since i live close to there, but found out it was the scam i thought it might be...

Russ you should try to report him to EBAY. There is a chance one of the board members could get scammed. I also inquired and got the $1800 shipped but there was no way I was going to do it. I knew by the price it was not legit. At the time the auction was over $1800, why would he end it and sell them to me for less???

Hi, I placed a bid on these wheels and the seller contacted me with a "buy it now" price of $1800.00 and wanted me to send the money via Western Union to the UK but not to say it was for a Ebay item. I have fowarded all of his emails to [email protected] Ebay replied back to me saying they would check into it. Stay Away!!! Matt

Yeppers, the guy is scamming. I did an ARIN search on the IP headers in his emails and they don't originate from where he says hes located.

I'm gonna bid his wheels up to $50,000,000. He'll be real happy about that.

:p There ya go, but seriously the auction should be reported to ebay with your last auction number of the same wheels etc and they will pull it and no one will get screwed! Bidding it up to 50,000,000 would be a hoot too :D

Jimster:

Apparently you know what you are doing here. I have been watching for a set of 98 Wheels on E-bay and came across this ad also with a newbie listing them. I E-mailed him and he wanted a buy it now price of $1,000.00. I know this same exact add appeared the 2nd or 3rd week of December from another member. Looks like it may be the same scan. Can you tell anything from your researching.
