I was looking for a good spot to mount a harness and seen this nice red bolt almost directly behind the driver and passenger seat. Does anyone know what its for? It looks strong like a seatbelt bolt, but I don't know what its attached to. Is it attached to a strong hard point or just some flimsy sheet metal?

I just need one mounting point for the top harness. I think it would be best to mount it straight behind the seats but I'm going to attach it to the stock seat belt retractor bolt if I can't find a good suitable location. Thanks.

It's very likely the shoulder belt bolt you're looking for. My '94 came from Canada - a year that US and Canadian belts were different. When I installed the five-point, I found the same; two bolts above the center console used for the stock belt retractors and then also two-per-side unused threaded holes with tape over them to keep them clean. That bolt looks like the right thing, also.

That's the bolt that holds the whole car together. It must be kept torqued down to 120 lbs at all times.

Oh, wait, I'm thinking of the one on the bottom of the oil pan.

Nevermind.

As a quick follow-up question, is it OK to mount both shoulder belts to this one bolt? Currently, I have a 5 point that uses this bolt for the driver's right belt, and another right by the door pillar for the left belt. However, feeding this through the rear trim piece has damaged the piece and I want to do the job right when I replace it. It would be much easier to mount (and service) the belts if they could both be attached at the same point - just not sure if there's some rule against it.

That's a good question. I have a 5 way harness but the top forms a upside down Y so their is just one mount for the top part. These are from Tom at BTR they came with the roll bar. He said both of these are good for down to 10.00 in the 1/4, but I don't know if there are different rules to road racing compared to drag racing.

How did you damage your trim piece? I was going to cut a small hole in it to put the belt through.

The previous owner installed both the 5 point and an Autoform rollbar. However, because the left shoulder belt was installed on the very left-hand frame bolt, and the door pillar trim piece was not cut, the belt snakes over to the right, then through a large flap cut in the main trim piece. Because of the holes cut to accomodate the rollbar mount points there wasn't much in the way of structural integrity in the trim, and it is all pretty much held together with the top vinyl layer. Right now I'm looking at either re-cutting a new stock piece, seeing if Autoform has an aftermarket piece, or fabricating some aluminum trim as a reinforcement over the existing cracked pieces.

Well I got it in OK and used the mounting location where the red bold was to connect the harness. I used the black bold off the stock seat belt retractor to mount the harness because it was longer than the red bolt. Then I cut some slots in the trim piece. I think it turned out pretty good.

Here is a pic without the seats in, still dirty though.

Well I did take out that red bolt along with the seat belt retractor bolts and they are all threaded into the same piece of metal behind the seats. It looks quite strong so I'm sure the red bold will be strong enough to hold the upper harness in place.

BTW I'm installing the BTR roll bar, in preparation for some sub 12 sec runs
