I've had my car almost 8 years and every other Gen 1 owner that I meet has had trouble every now and then with the glovebox. Part of the character of the car I guess.

No problem with mine...but it acts up once in a while. All you do is rest it on the hook and press on the latch until you hear it click..that is it.

Or the spring may be broken.

I was having the same problems with mine. I had to manually reset the hook on the door so it would catch on the latch inside the glove box. Got the hook replaced under warranty, and it has worked fine ever since. The spring was broken inside the hook part of the latch that resets the hook. Does get aggrivating doesn't it! Close the glove box door, oops, it pops open, close it again, then it pops open the next time you accelerate, and all your CD's, Cassette tapes, etc, and owner's manual wind up on the floor and passenger seat along with your sun glasses, or better yet, all the stuff winds up in your wife's lap! Did get to the point of Robert's suggestion, VELCRO! And it worked!
