I was able to get this "Failure Report" (as Arrow calls it) on the recent warranty work that was done on my engine because of head gasket leaks from Arrow Racing:

Upon receipt of your engine, we found some things wrong. Both cylinder head gaskets were leaking coolant and the thermostat crossover was leaking too. The main housing bore was out of spec by .0001 to .0003 and had to be align honed to repair. The flywheel needed to be replaced.
The block was sent back to the original manufacture for counter bores and redecking.
The engine was then reassembled using all new parts including the crankshaft, camshaft with lifters, piston/rod assemblies, cylinder liners, timing chain set, front cover with oil pump, thermostat, water pump, rod and main bearings, spark plugs and wires. With new gaskets and seals, the rebuild was complete.
The engine was then sent to our dyno shop for a two-hour break in period with three W.O.T. power runs to confirm the engine met the rated horsepower and torque numbers. A cylinder leak down and compression test was preformed, and a special oberg oil filter was inspected and after a final check for any external oil leaks the engine was prepared for return shipment.

As you can see from the report Arrow replaced practically everything in my engine. It also came with a "TB" break in procedure. I can't say how it performs yet, I only have about 30 miles on it.

Yes it was the cranshaft bore.

JonB is right...My extended warranty (7year/50,000 miles...my car was not sold until June 1997) lasts until 18 June 2004 or 50,000 miles. I now have 22,000 miles on it and a new engine!!!!

Hi Mamba,
The report says the "main housing bore" was out of spec - is this the crank centerline in relation to the bores... ?
Thanks.

Are you losing coolant? Have you checked the recovery bottle in the facia?...Go to your dealer and start complaining about mysterious minor coolant loss. They will probably try to check out why and when they can't find anything DC will tell them to ship your motor to Arrow. It seems that DC doesn't mess around too much with this complaint because it's a known problem with Gen I's. There are two kinds of Gen I motors, "those that have leaked and those that will leak".

NOW WAIT A DARNED MINUTE!!!!!!!!!
So far, DC has been very decent about rebuilds when necessary.
Many times even when it hasn't been completely necessary. If everybody starts complaining about non-existent problems, prudence would require that the rebuilds cease. Then, your local dealer would just put in new head gaskets, or whatever.
Don't spoil a good thing for those who really need a rebuild just to get your engine 'blueprinted' by dreaming up balony complaints.

On the one hand I tend to agree with you regarding underhanded complaints to get warranty work. On the other hand it is pretty well established that ALL Gen I's are going to leak. It's just a matter of whether this happens before your warranty runs out or not. The fact of the matter is that for the PRICE we paid for these cars there should have been a recall on ALL of them. I suspect this is DC's position as well they just aren't saying so.
