For those of you that are interested in the 03RT, get Automobile mag. Great article on it. Statement by Herb Helbig, Viper development manager, "The Viper has always been a back-to-basics hot rod. It was conceived by a bunch of hot rodders and street racers, so we were very much attuned to keeping the car pure and basic. Once you violate the back-to-basics formula, you start adding so much stuff like digital displays, traction control, and technology for technology's sake that pretty soon you have a Corvette on your hands. The further away we can be from the Corvete, the better we're doing our job".

Other interesting points:
The old engine had two throttle bodies, while the new will have a single two-blade throttle body that opens sequentially to control the engine as a whole.
The dash is a single piece of magnesium - the biggest piece of cast mag in the auto industry. Saves 30 lbs.
Long pieces of carbon fiber support the front fenders. Saves 40 lbs.
Run flat tires saves 20 lbs.
Reports of "awesome" skidpad numbers.
Brakes will be solid single piece rotor standard surface Brembo.
Useful trunk with room for maybe two golf bags.
Heated glass in convertible rear window.
Vent system delivers warm air through the dashboard for top down enjoyment.
Pedals not offset and substantial dead pedal.
Full belly pan with ducts and fences to create downforce.
Dodge Viper has been the anti-Corvette from the first.

Bob Lutz told Helbig upon his departure, "Listen, you may be forgiven a lot of things about the Viper. But you will never be forgiven if you let it be anything less than the number one performance car on the planet." Helbig said he was a very smart guy, and he had taken his advice to heart.

Finally, there is a great side article on the noise cancellation technology that will be used to reduce the side exhaust noise to acceptable levels. This is where the noise is measured, then a 180 degree opposite noise is generated by something like a speaker to cancel the noise. Sounds to me like the speaker could be disconnected!!!???

I'm really glad to see that the philosophy is right. Sounds like a great article, I'll have to pick it up.

The comment about the magneseum dash may be confusing. What they should have written is that the top of the firewall/toebox assembly is magneseum and not the dash. Just setting the record straight.

Dynamic noice canceling would be feaking awsome! Imagine a dash switch to enable / disable it... Loud when you want it to be, quiet when you don't... And all at the touch of a button.

Can any of you insiders confirm this?

Is the car really going to have run flat tires? Usually run flat tires add weight. I know this is the one thing I wish my C5 didn't have.

The article did say run flat tires (say it saves 20 lbs)and the wheelbase is stretched by 2.6 inches and the rear track is only fractionally widened, while the front track is narrower - measures driven by FIA racing regs. The numbers are 175.5L x 74.8W x 47.6H. So it appears it isn't as wide as originally thought. These numbers were apparently produced by John Fernandez, the Viper redesign lead.

As far as the noise cancellation, 2 options were mentioned, one of which was passive (so no switch, I guess). Let's hope for the active option (with switch - yeh!). Dodge and their consultant haven't decided which option yet.
