From Chrysler Press Release:

Chrysler Group and Southern Auto Auction Celebrate 40 Years of Remarketing Vehicles Together

April 18 event kicks off a year-long schedule of special auction sales commemorating the anniversary

Auburn Hills, Mich., Apr 15, 2004 -The year was 1964 – the year that Beattlemania spread across the U.S. like wild fire, fueled by the group’s first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. It was also the year that Chrysler Corporation, in partnership with Southern Auto Auction in East Windsor, Conn., established the first used car auction.

In celebration of their 40-year partnership, DaimlerChrysler’s Chrysler Group and Southern Auto Auction are planning the largest closed factory auto auction in Chrysler’s history on April 18 and 19. A record 2,004 Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge vehicles will be offered for sale on four lanes of the 18 lane facility.

“Since Southern Auto Auction and Chrysler Corporation established one of the first auctions 40 years ago, we have sold everything from muscle cars to K cars to Vipers to minivans,” said Ray Fisher, Vice President, Chrysler Group Fleet and Remarketing. “This partnership has helped our remarketing business grow into one of the most reputable and successful in the industry.”

The festivities begin on April 18 with a 1960s theme party, being held at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. The gala will feature a recreation of The Ed Sullivan Show, including the leading Beatles tribute band, Strawberry Fields. The anniversary celebration culminates with the auction event on April 19.

The Southern event is the first of several special auction sales events the Chrysler Group has planned in 2004 to commemorate their 40 years in the remarketing business.
