I don't know the definitive answer to your question, but I bought a recalibrated autometer shiftlight and the pills didn't match the indicated RPM (about 700 RPM difference between pill and tach reading). There's nothing wrong with my tach.

So I did just as you suggested and increased the pill number until I got to the actual RPM that I wanted the light to go off at. This has worked for me. One problem you might have with a unit that is not calibrated is you may find it impossible to get a pill that will work at the RPM you need.

I recommend calling Autolite tech support.

By the way, how's it going up there in Laytonsville?

Yes, I do exactly this. I use a 6600 RPM pill for a 5280 setting; simply calculate 25% higher than you want using an 8 cylinder setting.

I believe the shift lite calibration turns the module into a two cycle pickup. Any one plug/coil pack lead fires twice per revolution, therefore, the need to sense two cycle?? This is definitely the modification (2 cyclinder)for a window switch, however, the window switch pick-up is off of one coil pack driver lead.

For information purposes I posted some pics of the tap point on the PCM. In the Gen1 it is fairly easy to grab the tach conductor under the dash. On the GEN2, the under dash construction makes it much harder. I found it easier to pick up the wire at the PCM and route it to the shift lite module thru the toe box.
