Are the B&B headers coated with a Jet coating from the factory? If not how important is it that this is done? Thanks.

Re: B&B Header Questions

I am planning on going with a Roe SC. I was looking at the Jet Hot Silver coating 1,300F. I am a little leary about the durability of this coating with the SC. The 2000F coating is not attractive looking. What do you guys think? Thanks.

Re: B&B Header Questions

They are not coated from the factory. I had mine coated with
the 2000 degree (dull black) and reinstalled the heatsheilds, didn't worry so much about the look as the durability and heat issues. Sounds much better also. A must with the SC.

I don't think durability with the B&B's should be much of a problem. I just had the 1 3/4" set installed and will find out. They are made of stainless steel, so it will be a very long time before they rust, if ever. I like the idea of the JetHot just to keep the under hood temps down and JetHot claims there is some HP increase. I just didn't want to go too the extra time, expense, and hassle. Maybe the wrong decision, but the one I made.

Just a note of caution, when you put them on and fire it up for the first time, don't be surprised to hear a bit of exhaust leak at the collectors. They are a slip fit, meaning that they come with 5 individual tubes for each side that you bolt on one at a time then slip the collector on the end of all 5. I was concerned at first and the installer (Finish Line Dodge) called B&B and they told them that I had to drive it for a while to heat cycle them and it would seal up. I was skeptical, but now that I have about 350 miles on them, it seems to be true. I still have some leakage, but it seems to be going away rather than getting worse.

I am not sure how JetHot would affect this. The additional coating thickness may be enough to tighten up the connection. On the other hand, the coating my insulate the pipes enough that they don't expand to seal. I would give B&B a call and ask before I sent them out or get info from someone on the board that has tried it.

Factory heat shield can be installed. I personally VHT painted mine and leave them open. This allows air to get around them an cool them down. Plus it looks cooler to see them

There are some "aerospace" ceramic coatings that are available that are "supposed" to do a better job than JetHot, but are BUTT UGLY. They look like rough gray primer with a sand texture.
Sorry but I can't think of the vendor that a lot of folks use, I looked into it, but went with the JetHot silver on the Z-06 cause I was a "poser" LOL

I like the looks of the gray stuff! I saw some of those this weekend, and thought it looked pretty cool. In true Texas fashion, I'm gonna coat mine with Rhino Liner! (not really)
