I'm wondering what car alarms people have on their car, how well it is and how much it costs. Thanks guys.

I use a pager alarm that hooks up to the stock sensors, and which is enabled at all times - just turn off the receiver/pager when you don't want to hear it.

The one I have isn't sold any more, but Crimestopper makes many appropriate/similar models.

The last alarm system I bought was a Clifford for my Corvette, which was back in 2000. As far as I was concerned it was the best alarm out there. I haven't bought another alarm since then, so I haven't done much research, but I do know Clifford, although pricey, is still one of the best. They just recently came out with GPS tracking if your car is stolen, so I'd say they are still a good option.

What's wrong with your stock security system, or do you not have one?

The previous owner of my car installed a Viper (the aftermarket alarm company, not from Dodge) alarm system. It *****. BAD.

As a result, neither of my exterior door buttons work to open the door, nor does the internal door handle on the passenger side. I don't know if this is due to a conflict with the factory alarm system or the result of a botched installation, but it's very annoying.

Also, completely randomly, the factory car alarm will arm itself which overrides the aftermarket alarm, effectively locking me out of the car. So, I have to unlock the back window and use the emergency release to get in when this happens.

I'm getting ready to have it removed and either revert to the stock alarm or have a Clifford installed.

They also enabled the voice synthesizer so I have to hear "VIPER ARMED!" and "VIPER DISARMED!" when I enable/disable the alarm, and if someone gets too close to my car, it yells at the offender, "STAND BACK! PROTECTED BY VIPER!"

So freaking ******** :crazy2:

I don't think mine has an alarm. I just got it yesterday. It's a 1996 Viper GTS. The keyless entry doesn't have any kind of arming an alarm. And when the windows are down and locked you can't open it from the inside but it doesn't set off any kind of alarm.

compustar rocks...i bought one for my girlfriends pathfinder. it has a remote car stater too...i wish i had one on my truck, and that they would make one with a starter for a six speed tranny, so i could put one on the viper...they say its in the works...so if you want a compoustar for the viper, you just can't have a remote starter yet.

check them out...way cheaper on ebay, and then find someone to install it!

The best and cheapest alarm is a kill switch. If they really wanted to steal it they will.

Just make sure you buy one that won't go off when I drive by you in a parking lot. ;)
