I know a local porsche parts co that had a prblem last week. He is a power seller & had just listed 300+ items for the week. Later that evening his tech guy recieved a e mail from e bay & it wanted him to confirm the password, which he did.

The next day when he tried to acess the account, he coudnt. the password was changed.

E bay security told him that someone listed a 2002 996 with a buy it now for 55K$, which someone did . They wired the money to some guy in finland & luckily the transation was caught. The e bay e mail was typical e bay template & the scammers had a good thing going, using his good rating to lull unsuspecting buyers.

Well, I must confess, I was a victim of a similar scam when I acquired my Viper. I lost almost $10,000. Recently the individual responsible for the scam was arrested; however, funds are no longer around. I have been certainly guilty of having too much faith in people being good and decent. Sadly, I must exercise greater caution and restraint with individuals these days. Be careful, guys.

Happy motoring,

Ben

The msn site had a report on false escrow accounts. In order to assure the buyer that there was no problem they were to deposit the money in an escrow account. After they did it the money and the car was gone.

I think the best way to use the Internet is to locate a car. Then do the deal in a standard way.

I find myself being lured to deals that are just too good to be true. Fortunately I'm kind of a cheap skate so I don't usually go through with it.

got scammed by a person in houston tx on a neon. this neon was built to go fast and stop quick. the picures showed a really nice looking car. when i got there to pick it up it was all torn up. looked like it was a stolen car, had no paperwork, no title, wish i knew what to do at the time it happened. Recetly found out that this person has 2 federal stricks against him and i have been trying to put pressure on the local DA to help me out. no interesed. still have not been able to recoupe my deposit.
