lotta adversity about these plugs. i personally am happy with champions. i was thinking about using a set of bosch platinum +4 for drag only, ie; put em in to race take em out afterwards. the only complaint that seems to be valid about these plugs is their durability so if i limit the useage to only track then they should do as they claim right?

BTW tried royal purple 21 oil, great stuff but thats another thread, LOL

From what I was told from other tuners is not to use the platinum plugs. Don't know exactly why?

ive heard that too but a few very reputable tuners (wont mention names so as not to start shiit) say all the negative talk is BS as long as you realize they (bosch plat) just dont last long like champs d/t to plat vs copper issue. but for performance they deliver

Heh-heh. Nah, I was just trying to help. More information, ya know. :)
My conclusion was that they seemed to work fine on more Vipers than not.

I posed the plug question a while back and the unanimous consensus was those cheap 'ol Champs. Go figure!

I wouldn't change out the +4 plugs if they work for you. Leave them in all the time if the car runs ok with them. There isn't anything that's going to wear out in 10k miles, probably not in 30k miles.

If you have a stock engine I'd say that your car isn't going to be very sensitive to plug types. As long as you don't put some magic plugs from an ad in the back of a magazine or cold plugs made for a race engine.
Just put the regular Champion plugs in it.

Always had a great result from the Japanese NGK plugs. Tuners over here swear by them. Most tuners run NGK race or street over here. Champion spends heaps on advertising, but racers use what the tuners like - and here they like NGK. I've met top racing tuners who won't touch a Champion plug... but there's no problem with their durability in street applications I'm sure - they're the OEM choice for many cars.

Indexing your plugs will usually net a bigger gain than changing brands however. Even the very expensive Spitfire plugs only net around 1-3hp on average - hardly worth the investment unless there are other longer term benefits (don't know, haven't tested them personally). Also 1-3hp is within the error range of most dyno's so some would say no claim could be made at all. Indexing however can net gains beyond the error range of a good dyno - it's often worth it.

Personally I only run NGK's - I trust them and they've always out performed AC Delco and Champion. Tuners have told me they like them better than Bosche as well - I have no reason to doubt them - they sell both.

in your case - if it ain't broke why fix it - however it's not going to break the bank to experiment. Either way - I'd still index the plugs.

For what it's worth, I have 3000+ miles on my +4's now, and haven't had a single problem, and certainly haven't seen any CELs. This includes a track date, and a pair of back-to-back non-stop 900 mile trips, with both high-speed driving and start/stop rush-hour driving in the mix.

It is my opinion that the difference was noticable, but it may have been just new plugs in general and/or the new plug wires I installed at the same time.

If you have a stock Viper, there isn't going to be any diference between one plug brand and another. The engine simply doesn't put enough stress on it's ignition system to call for any certain plug.
Of course, you must use the correct reach and heat range.

Unless you are replacing faulty plugs, you will never feel the diference between one brand and another.

Indexing your plugs in a stock engine is probably not worth doing.

If you use Champion plugs, they are so inexpensive that you can change them whenever you like as often as you like.

With 9.6:1 compression and 6k rpm redline, the plugs are just not working very hard to set the fire in the combustion chambers.
There isn't anything to be gained by improving the ignition, as long as it is working as it was designed, that is, not defective.
